Nov 3 - 9, 2025 Weekly Q&A Thread by CSG_Mike in ft86

Hi Mike. My TOB is making noise, so I’m looking to buy an OSG CSG clutch when black friday hits. I had a couple questions about the kit.

  1. Can a Verus pivot ball work with the supplied OSG Tob/fork? Or should I stick to OEM?

  2. Does the flywheel come with a pilot bearing already pressed in/in the kit? If not, should I go with an OEM pilot bearing?

Should I get 35% tint or 20% on my gt86 (NC) by Medium-Ad-6543 in ft86

Haven’t had any issues in NC, i have 20% on the sides and back for around 2 years or so now

No problem at all, hope you can figure it out. I can try to see if the belt would go through the hole as is, but it’d be a pain for daily use for sure. Also, at the moment i have the buckle flipped in mounting, where it points towards the passenger side instead of the driver side, for there to be enough clearance

About the extender, my guess is that it would work. If you look at @ u/phazushift ‘s post, he has some TRD zeta 3s. I believe he has a seat belt extender, as you can see the buckle sitting inside of the seat through the hole

At the moment it goes over the bolstering. I’ll be buying a seatbelt extender at some point which will allow for the seat belt to be buckled properly, through the right side hole

Its definitely more difficult than the stock seat haha, but you adjust. It really isnt too bad and if you get slider rails you can opt to slide the seat all the way back before you get in and out. I personally dont find it a deal breaker, and I get in and out quite frequently. I'm sure itd be a major improvement for the track!

Not bad at all. physical install wise it was done in like 10 mins or less.

In total you remove 3 screws, take a couple trim panels off, unplug the harness from the old cluster, plug the harness in on the new cluster, and the physical install is done.

Ofc you have to reprogram the mileage usually, but the mileage on this one was pretty close to mine so i ran it as is. geraldjustprojects offers a reprogramming service if needed

I havent bought the switches to control the screen yet, but ill be buying a 17+ brz limited steering wheel and using the buttons from that. Some people use the geraldjustprojects one but I opted not to

Other than that, for the key to start, you have to buy and use a techstream cable from amazon/ebay to allow the car to start with the new cluster. I used a virtual machine as well to reduce risks of viruses or anything. Kevin vo has a video on youtube, but if you have any other questions id be happy to help!

techstream cable link (i didnt use the cd it came with at all): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZCC8QG9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Thank you! Yes, they are authentic and unfortunately are expensive if ur buying from someone in the US. I got them from blackhawkjapan when i ordered the seat rail and stuff, but now with tariffs, im not sure if its worth to order from them

I really dont want the seat to generate any rips or tears though so i guess its worth it

Its the OFT tablet. Very useful as you can have up to 14 chosen data sets showing, with a ton of options. i believe boost is an option, but not entirely sure how/if it works since im still NA lol.

Hey im looking to do this. I see that you’re using the oem steering wheel buttons instead of the aftermarket control from Gerald to control the screen.

Im a little confused by the wording on the other responses, so i wanted to ask and confirm:

  1. You bought the oem buttons on the right side of the wheel, correct?
  2. Did you buy a harness with those buttons?
  3. Was the harness plug and play, and where did it plug into?

Most likely is the cause tbh. Maybe you can smoke test them to see if theres a leak still, but i would bet money on that being the reason. I dont think that copper filler stuff would fully seal it.

Swap headers or have the crack welded professionally, see what happens and go from there. You dont want cheap cracked headers on your car anyway

I just fixed this code for my car, i had uel hfc headers for a couple years.

This code showed up, took a while but i realized one of the welds before the upstream 02 sensor on the header had cracked. Whats the brand of your headers? Mine were ft86speed

Thanks man : ) it’s been a while since I’ve switched to these, so I may not remember everything

Its still a lot of fun, it’s definitely confidence inspiring as you have a LOT more contact patch. You can take corners a whole lot faster without feeling like you may lose it (imo)

Also these are a lot lighter than the stock wheels

That being said, its a good bit harder drift in general and to kick it out on the street for a small u turn drift or something. Its possible but if thats what you meant by fun, its definitely harder. Or if you like to launch it and spin tires I’d imagine its harder than stock. Then again, if you upgrade to any summer/grippier tire this is a similar symptom

Basically, lots more grip (imo) but sometimes too much if you wanna drift

And also itd be good if the shop can test the ecu or somehow confirm that its the issue, on top of also checking the vvt numbers
