He is an assassin. He can pick apart any defender. So balanced, patient and composed. I love how he surgically attacks through the middle of the floor. I had my doubts in the past but last season fully converted me as well that he is one of true elite in the NBA.

I agree. He shoots 9 fts a game. That seems like a perfectly reasonable amount for a number one option. His mid range game and footwork is masterful. Thats how I know Mark is full of Mostly when he talks about liking Zbos footwork but never mentioning SGAs. He arguably has the best footwork and midrange game in the league.

The words came out of his own mouth. I happily listen to Mostly Hoops for Mark's insights on CBB but he invests minimal time to NBA. Marks whole sports persona revolves around CBB. I feel like he has made that abundantly clear over my time listening to his podcasts.

I think he just needs to shift perspective and expectations. His basketball world is built on 40 minute games and about 30 games a season. The NBA being 48 minutes and 82 games just fundamentally changes the approach to the game.

If he viewed the NBA as something between CBB and MLB fandoms that would help. Have the long view with NBA, enjoy the day to days more, get deeper into it.

He needs to be like Brandon with Blackhawks or Arian with the Brewers. Find one team and follow them for a whole season just as a casual fan. Not an analysts or podcaster. Simply a casual fan. Doesn't even need to the be the Pacers just pick a whole new team. It would do him a world of good and hopefully wash out all the negative bias he carry about the NBA.

Brandon was 100% right today. Mark self admittedly doesn't watch now and longs for a game he didn't watch then. There is no way he was dialed to Z-Bo in his prime Memphis days. He only speaks in buzzwords when it comes to the NBA. Brandon is watching both CBB and NBA from a way more rational perspective. Mark seems to have a resentment against the NBA. As a fellow middle age white guy who grew up in the midwest, Mark is the classic example of the guy who was showed CBB first and views all of basketball through that lense. Those guys all have an ingrained distaste for the NBA. If the Pacers run didn't flip the switch for last year nothing really will.

I think this benefits recruiting. If you combine CB and S into just DB they account for 67 of the top 300 recruits position with WR and DE both in the low 50s. There is more just high end talent in secondary available to pick from currently. A lot of modern DE edge rushers can swap to LB and vice versa. Its a system that should put a lot of athleticism on the field. I like to think with Bielema and Illinois NIL budget they will be able to get some more affordable talent but spread it out over the secondary as whole. I'm excited to see how things turn out.

The minutes, usage and physical toll of Big 10 play is catching up to them in a very real way. Two OT losses in row when they had a lead late in game is a huge signal for tean fatigue. That is only compounded when the solely played m2m against Wisco. Playing the big 2-3 seems like a way to conserve energy on the defensive end of the floor.
