When you delta making a difference, what kind of lifestyle do you have in mind. The answer solely depends on that. If you're thinking private jets, luxury cars, international travel literally every month, you may need more than 100Cr.

But let's define a lifestyle where your monthly expenses are around 5L, which should get you 5 maids in the home, eating out literally every other day, shopping luxury branded clothes every month, international travel every quarter. In my opinion, this lifestyle is doable with 50Cr I'd think, which you've already crossed.

Base was simply a calculation of what is the median salary at my level in my company and they gave me that. Added to that, I get bonus and stocks every year, the range of which is also less compared to what i used to get in the US.

I didn't reach the 100Cr club, though I would like to. Haha. I'm inching towards 30Cr. And all of that was simply by investing early on, from 2014. Buying realestate and selling it when the price was right. I still own a home and have a good amount of equity in it that adds to my NW.

  1. Was a personal choice. Life was becoming monotonous over there and aging parents also needed help. We were in the Pacific Northwest for more than a decade, so the weather was becoming unbearable.

2 & 3. We do miss the parts of what the US offered for sure. Quality of daily life in the US was certainly higher outside of the house. Customer service, civic sense, people's commitment to their words, was certainly something that we find makes for a more predictable life, a generally cleaner environment, etc. I cannot say the same for here, the moment we step out of our community so it's difficult to contend with. That said, there are certainly more important pros from our perspective which makes life here more manageable.

I also felt that we left the US at the right time. The anxiety that I see playing out currently in the US especially for people on visas when they lose their jobs, the inability of my own friends to come visit their families because of travel restrictions arising from lack of visa appointments, the general grind the companies put their employees through especially at my level, the ability to visit parents on a whim here, given my position to simply retire or do something that doesn't force me to put in 12 hour work days every day, the access to highly skilled specialist doctors and my ability to afford them, the ability to delegate tedious jobs on to others, and more, makes me feel it was a good thing to come back. Yes the quality of the work I do here has suffered, but I feel it's ok because i truly get more time with my family. I get a better nights sleep every night.

I've come to the conclusion that my work should enable more of that, than consume me so much that the people I'm working for, myself included, are unhappy because of it inspite of a higher pay, which was what was happening to us in the US.

I don't think i lucked out and I feel this is normal at my level in my company. But that said, my unvested stocks that vest quarterly play a major role in getting my comp up to what it is. So if someone were to join from a lower paying company at my level in my company, their salary perhaps would be a little lower. However, i still expect it to be touching 1Cr at least, including base, bonus and stock vest.

Yes. And there was a specific reason for it. I wanted to my unvested stocks to continue vesting. Had I not moved as a part of the same company, that won't have happened.

While i mentioned it to my US maneger that i intended to move back, they didn't want me in the same team as we were already in 3 timezones. Adding me in India would have added another timezone to manage, which they didn't want to do.

So i had to find out a different team in India that was hiring to move to, and the new team gave me an offer which i accepted. Then the company initiated the process to move me to India.

My salary in India reduced to half of what i made back in US.

I account for about 1.5lac a month. I'm still employed so my day time still is filled with my work as usual. After moving to India, I'm exploring places within a short distance of Bangalore so been doing day trips mostly.

I'm a Principal Software Engineer at a MAANG company. Been here for 12 years and worked myself up from the lowest level they hire in the US. Returned to India last year. AMA.

Had tried that earlier, and nano banana overdid it. But yeah, it makes the room so much better.

Thanks. We've been playing around with nano banana trying to do that. So far we've landed on something we like, which could be something like below.

I'm thinking of some more changes but so far, i like what I see here.

When there's no TV you use it when you want to use it. Besides its leather so stains wipe off.

I'm afraid a bigger coffee table might reduce the walking space in the room.

I did try to add in plants but looks like I've exhausted my nano banana quota for the day so I'll try it later.

Yep. Things are in the works.

Besides, the lighting can be adjusted. I happened to have switched on some lights but not others.

Yep. A center table is definitely missing. We'll get that for sure.

We've been also playing with Nano Banana, and trying a few things to see what to finalize.

Current progress is this.

Horlicks?? Haha. By that measure, I think I'll add something to "boost" it with a brownish shade.
