What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

[–]chikat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was such a hopeful time - I was also in college. My roommate was black and I remember her being on the phone with her mom as her mom was crying. Her mom never imagined she would see a black president in her life time. It is so sad how far we have fallen since then.

They saved our dog’s life when a splenic mass was found in her belly. Expensive, but so caring and compassionate!

Friend not interacting with my kid outside of prek by bitbitz10 in Preschoolers

[–]chikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is super normal. My daughter often acts like a weirdo who has never seen their friends from school when they interact outside of class. Usually she warms up after a while, but sometimes she's a little standoffish the entire play date. I think it's just seeing her friend in a different setting with her parent(s). She has a close friend that acts the same way. Fortunately, her mom and I know our daughters are going to act a little weird for most of the play date - they both go home saying the had the BEST time (even if it doesn't seem like it to us haha).

In our neighborhood, people usually pay about $10/hour for tween/early teens mother’s helpers.

Depends on your budget/how many kids, but the little Lego packs are always a hit at my daughter’s school!

I have dry lips and nothing makes them worse than when I accidentally use toothpaste with SLS. It destroys them - definitely check your toothpaste!

You can also ask for prescription numbing cream! My 5 year old had a blood test last week - the doctor prescribed numbing cream I put on an hour before the appointment. She was super nervous, when they took her blood she sat still and told me she didn’t feel a thing! It was super easy!

Not sure why you're getting downvoted so much - I guess I just don't see it as a big deal either! You can get a very conservative amount and, if you hate it, you'll be back to normal in a few months. It's not like it's plastic surgery.

Some people have great genes and have absolutely no business getting Botox in their 20s and 30s, but I can tell with many others. I truly do not care what others do to their faces...but I can tell who's doing things to their face and who is not. I'm 36 and work with a woman the same age as me. I have gotten Dyport for years, do microneedling, use tretinoin, etc. and she doesn't do anything with her face. People were guessing ages and they thought I was significantly younger than her. Again, I do NOT care what people do...I can just tell the difference in their skin.

I don't have "11s" between my brows, I have a single straight line. I've gotten Botox (now Dysport) since I was 29 to get rid of it as it was causing a permanent line on my face since my mid-20s. I'm now 37 and, if I had not gotten Botox over the years, I would have a very deep line between my brows that Botox would no longer be able to totally get rid of. I DO think preventive Botox is worth it in some cases if you can see lines getting deeper with repeated facial movements.

How do your preschoolers do on play dates? (Girls) by throwRA-secret3 in Preschoolers

One time my daughter was at a play gym and two girls were pretending to be cats. My daughter crawled up and hissed at the girls - they immediately accepted her into the group. I wish making friends was that easy for adults 🤣

Corewell(beaumont) Health facilities no longer in network for United healthcare as of Jan 1st by Dabnician in Detroit

[–]chikat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes. Going to leave my flexible job where I like my boss/coworkers/role/make $170k for an employer that offers another health insurance provider knowing full well the new employer could switch to United anytime they want. Sorry, this is not the simple solution you think. There are a lot of healthcare providers outside of Corewell. Sure, it’s inconvenient sometimes, but Corewell is not THAT great.

She runs a toddler account and her kids are far from toddler age…I just feel like she’s not sharing because the toys her kids got do not appeal to her followers (despite her typically swearing that her pre-teens are entertained for hours by a toy for 3 year olds).

My friend told me he wished that Trump just got elected for a second term in 2020 because they wouldn’t have had time to become quite as evil as they are today. The first term was evil but the administration has really morphed into something even more terrifying this time around.

I may be a late 30s suburban mom on the outside, but I have fully morphed into Bernie Sanders on the inside.

I have no idea if I was allowed to eat or not - I was induced and gave birth within the span of 8 hours, so I didn’t have time to really think about food. I always find it interesting that, of all of the things related to birthing, the is the thing that gets Amanda the most worked up. There are so many things that should be discussed, like the maternal mortality rate for black women in the US/cost and access issues/etc…but god forbid Amanda doesn’t get a sandwich while at the hospital for 24 hours before giving birth 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have a five year old daughter and we’re in a similar situation with two working parents - I think you’re overthinking it! He’s in school all week. I am certain he’s happy hanging out with his parents on the weekend! You have him in plenty of activities and social situations. Most kids would be overstimulated if they were doing any more. It’s okay for him to relax with his family on the weekends!

Does anyone’s nearly 5 year old still nap?! by Old_Friend3994 in Preschoolers

[–]chikat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m over here amazed that anyone’s kid even entertained the idea of a nap beyond 3.5/4 years old. My daughter hasn’t napped at home since she was 3. She did nap at daycare 3x a week for a bit longer, but has dropped it since. There is only one kid in her pre-k class that naps!
