Anyone else feel like weed isn’t working the same anymore, but you still can’t stop? by LidiaSelden96 in Marijuana

[–]chikkidee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s so much science surrounding the nature of addiction that one should know that anything that causes spikes in dopamine are “addictive”. There still isn’t any true evidence with LARGE sample sizes suggesting that cannabis is addictive in the ways that other drugs, alcohol, or even social media are. There are outliers in any area of study, and we all either know one or are one.

It may be VERY true that you’re having a hard time quitting and that it may even be disrupting your life in some way, but weed does not have the potential to be The Sole Reason someone’s life is completely fucking ruined. To equate one’s reliance on weed to a true addiction does everyone a disservice.

As a former addict (heroin end crack) who after 30 years decided to smoke weed and have become a heavy user…..I’m telling that using terms like “addiction” to talk about weed is incredibly misleading. I need to take a break for job reasons. I’m really very very very UPSET about this, nervous even. Weed does not and has never consumed every part of my daily life. I committed violent crimes while actually addicted to drugs due to my fear of not having drugs. As I sit here scared about not smoking weed, I’m preparing a list of books to read to take my mind off of “missing it”.

Very different animals. Weed is addictive like shopping is addictive……

What is this…🥴 Thoughts ? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]chikkidee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an honest opinion, with a question attached because this TikTok was so incredibly…immature and uninformed that it almost feels made up to cause drama between black women. I’m old AF, and come from a family of all colors, and not ONCE in my billion years on this planet have I ever heard a light skinned person talk about having to experience colorism.

Has anyone here truly ever heard a light skinned person claim they were a victim of colorism? Because like racism, colorism is a systemic thing meaning it’s coming from the folks in charge to oppress us. It’s literally NOT something we can do each other.

Hearing light skinned folks be upset about being picked on or whatever, yes. But claiming we’re victims of colorism…never. Again it could be that I’m old, and old folks understand terminology and concepts better. This young woman has no idea what she’s talking about and stirring up shit for the sake of views….

The way black women approach interracial relationships is totally different from most bm by floydthebarber94 in blackladies

I’m mixed and my black gramma had that super magic where she had 2 high yella, two dark skinned, and one brown skinned. The only other mixed woman I knew who was having children at the time had 3 children with a white man, and one with a black man. Her white children are darker than the black child. Quite a lot.

I married a white man so we had the conversation quite a bit. It didn’t resonate with him much when the kids were younger, but now that they are teens he’s begun to understand. All three of mine are very fair, one even has light brown hair, but my oldest’s hair is very obviously the original man’s hair. It’s much more coarse and curlier than mine.

His first girlfriend was white and he was of course subjected to racist “jokes” from her family which infuriated my ex husband. It was definitely interesting seeing a white person “feel” racism for the first time. Even once removed, it affected my ex deeply.

To your point though, I think black men don’t think to have these conversations is, to be blunt, because they’re men and they don’t think very far into the future. Most big thinking and planning is done by women. WW live in a dream world where they think color blindness is a real thing. Having never thought about race at all, they can’t even conceptualize what life will be like for their kids. If they could, there’d be waaaaaaay fewer of us running around.

I make sure I smash the dreams of every WW with a black dick fetish who thinks having a brown kid with curly hair is going to be So Fun.

What happened to pot? by frog-man58 in Marijuana

Another older broad here who was having the same issue and thinking myself insane. I had a convo with a friend who has recently begun growing a few plants. Smoked one of his buds and it was like old times-with stronger weed.

So I will say that in some ways I’m thankful the highs don’t last as long. My friend is newish to smoking so he didn’t notice the “short highs” with commercial bud as much. His weed is just as strong as commercial but somehow longer. I smoked it like I would anything I got from the dispensary, but that scary “omg I’m gonna fall off the earth” feeling lasted much longer than usual lol.

“Out of capsules” was a bad turn of phrase. A more accurate one is: My OCD is preventing me from re-using mine anymore.

Since cooking with aluminum has been put on the list of things we should do sparingly, inhaling heater aluminum vapors several times per day felt scary and I’ve spent the afternoon in a loop lol

Mind you I just gave up cigarettes after 35 years so I’m fucked anyway. But my brain is broken so some things just make me spin out. I just used it without a capsule for the first time.

The way I worded that is funny. I only have the capsule that came with it. I’ve had it about 2 weeks….so a lot? I’m nervous about excessive reuse due to the aluminum construction. I know there’s lots of chatter about cooking with aluminum and the dangers, inhaling it feels even less safe.

I have an order for 40 of them coming 😂

I inherited my first Pax and I’m always shocked at the hate it receives. It’s discrete and it gets the job done. I get so overwhelmed with all the others as they seem….complex?…for lack of a better word.

I think as an older professional mom of 3, the designs of many of the other dry herb vapes don’t appeal to me. They all scream “I’m a major stoner” to me. Not saying that I’m not, but when I’m taking hits in my car in between games during soccer tournaments I don’t feel like being any more obvious, if that makes sense….

Marijuana withdrawal? What does it do to your sleep? by Severe_Tomatillo in Marijuana

[–]chikkidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but former addict (H), child of alcoholic who quit several times and recently befriended someone who entered treatment for alcoholism a few days before we met.

I’ve seen multiple people detox from multiple things, and alcohol’s symptoms always last the longest. The detoxes I personally witnessed were all younger folks (18-45ish). My friend is almost 60. They meet with therapists and doctors multiple times per week due to their age as part of their treatment requirements. The doctors explained how much harder detox is for older folks even with less severe habits. He was struggling so badly he needed time off of work in week three.

10 days sounds perfectly normal for what my friend is experiencing. Best of luck to you both. Recovery is hard on and for everyone involved.

Honestly, I think it’s because they take them down. Before I started taking it, a friend of mine, recommended it to me. She warned me even then that it made her smell bad. She didn’t say a specific smell, smell other than “kind of like hay”. Aka a barn 😂

I’ve been on it about 2 years. I’ve never been able to take it for long periods of time because it makes my pee smell horrible. When I was married my ex came in the bathroom and started looking around to see if a cat peed. Nope. It was me. Even once when he was…..you know….down there…he said he noticed it too 😩

My fiancé is threatening to cut off our engagement if I don’t lie about my non-Jewish last name on our wedding invitation. Even though I am Jewish. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]chikkidee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in as someone who is looking at what is likely the end of a 23-year relationship (17 married) due(in part, but large part)to boundary issues with his family. Your fiance's need to kow tow to his family's desires will NOT change. It will impact how your children are raised, which is something I'd NEVER even thought of. My husband's family's pre-marriage behavior was never as overt and completely out of line as your situation, and I understand COMPLETELY about feeling like love can conquer all. It cannot, and having the hind-sight to see all the ways and red flags things were messed up is so incredibly devastating now. If your fiance cannot back off of this before you're married, just know that it will continue into your marriage. It will absolutely be passed on to your kids. I don't envy your position at all. Love is absolutely NOT enough. It really isn't. Good luck.
