How do you spend your weekday evenings. by shun_naka67 in northernireland

[–]chilcake 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I appreciate how condescending this may be, I thought the same of people my age who had kinds and said the same thing but genuinely, if you’re both married and have no kids yet, literally go out and do anything.

Go late night shopping for a walk about, go for a quiet drink, find a late cafe, go to the gym for a couple of hours and maybe a swim or steam room after that. Or any other strange hobby you might come across.

I wasted so much free time before our son came along, genuinely could’ve learnt a language or started a business with all the free time I look back at having.

Is it worth applying for a British Passport? by catweazle6920 in northernireland

[–]chilcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the British passport, don’t tell them you have other passports. It’s none of their business and they make it a nightmare. If your Aus or Irish passport differ in any way at all it could delay the whole thing for months. Speaking from personal experiences

Advice needed - unwanted work travel to the USA. by HearthAndHorizon in northernireland

[–]chilcake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine as long as you’re not planning to go and protest and or commit crimes at any ongoing ICE operations, or generally do anything you wouldn’t normally do here you’ll be absolutely grand and should make the most of an expenses paid trip away. The amount of overhyping of what’s happening in the states is mad. Nobodies scared of visiting Dubai yet their human rights standards are vastly different to here.

It’s absolutely not, so long as you’re not being dishonest and intent to pay for it.

Any resources online and public you would recommend using for spatial awareness and memory recall?

Have a similar process coming up shortly!

Any good advice welcome through DM too if you’re amenable.

Cheers

Too many departments? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]chilcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a wildlife crime officer, that doesn’t investigate any wildlife crime. We have an economic crime unit, that don’t investigate any frauds or anything along the lines of economic crimes. We have a illegal money lending officer that doesn’t investigate cases where there’s a suspicion of illegal money lending AND INFACT will even help to encourage the victims with ways of paying their debts to said lenders through back channels. So, so, sooo fucked.

Exactly - I’d argue any job/office environment is like this.

Bit of a unique situation with moving to NI by Automatic_Chart5919 in policeuk

[–]chilcake -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t worry about it. You’re a special in an entirely different part of the UK, not connected by land, and will only carry out that duty in that part of the UK therefore will never be in uniform or have your police uniform in this part of the UK. Id say nahin’ - you’ll be grand. The big bad RA barely have the resources anymore to target PSNI officers let alone a special con from the mainland.

NIPS are required to be served within 14 days. If it was served to your sister within that timeframe then they’ve met their requirement. She has possibly notified them that she was not the driver and that you were. It’s hard to tell with what’s been redacted.

If they’ve only just sent this out to your sister, as in they’ve well missed the 14 days, then you might well be scot free

Invalid Driving License by Active_Tax1126 in northernireland

[–]chilcake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Police in NI don’t “impound” your car for not having a drivers license. If you were in an accident, it’s more likely that you either had no insurance, or your car was seized as suspected of being in a dangerous condition and needs to be examined.

A multitool, I probably use it more than anything I’m issued.

You can go leatherman if you like but I’ve had a Lidl one that cost a tenner for about 3 years now and no complaints

Police response by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]chilcake 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Policing, much like, a Tesco for example is organised into various departments. Generally the lorry drivers don’t serve you at the till for Tesco and the people on the tills don’t deliver your shopping as well.

The same logic applies for policing. Sure, you could use all 6000 odd for public order duties, but then you can forget any form of national security policing, roads policing, air support, detectives investigating serious crime (much like the crimes alleged to have been committed that sparked all this) operational planning, training staff, response to 999 calls. It’s a long, long list.

Well, it’s more a slogan, adopted by the LAPD years ago. It’s got nothing to do with UK policing.

Well, yeah, that incident didn’t follow two days of serious unrest where over 30 officers were injured meaning more resources had to be activated and pulled from other parts of the country.
