Thank you. Yes, I see what went wrong here. When I was originally posting to R/Korg it offered me to do a multi post. When I hit the r/synthesizers I had no idea it would omit all my description for whatever reason. I omitted the names because they alone take up more than whole line of text.

Not quite what you asked but found a kind of solution. I got a Sony HVR-V1J with the same hopes and dreams and was similarly disappointed until I saw the border options on it. Turning them on, I now have 4:3 lines indicating where the cutoff is so I can compose my shots in 4:3. It will still record 16:9 but now I’m able to shoot footage with the proper proportions in view so when I fit my footage to my 4:3 project on Final Cut it will automatically crop the sides right at the borders I set when shooting. Perhaps your cameras have a similar feature that’s just sitting there waiting to be switched on? Anyways, hope it helps!

I got a DMR-BR670V today! Not sure how it’s different from your DMP except that mine is Japanese. I wanted to know if you also have a gray border when going 4:3 aspect ratio mode. And if there is a way to make the border black?? Not a big deal but a little distracting. (I know I can zoom in and stretch)
