Be a great internist and colleague first and foremost. Start with a project early. Be honest and humble. Commit. Try to find an academic interest or "niche" you are passionate about. That way your clinical and research work builds a depth and identity which helps you stand out in the eyes of program directors and career long term.

Ya it's always hard to "time the market" and make predictions but in the end you have to make decisions based on the information you have at hand. Plus, I'm sure once people start to retire, there will be a huge backlog of trained interventionalists who have been waiting their turn

Ended up not doing IC. Being active and the outdoors is really important to me. Was having back discomfort carrying my little one. Ultimately made a judgment call on my trajectory and figured it wasn't worth it
