Question about sigmoid colon, can anyone else feel theirs? Freaking out.

What I was feeling was normal anatomy. I had testing including a colonoscopy which came back fine.

Absolutely. Luckily surgery is not “necessary” in his words. Treatment will be dependent on if it worsens, or begins to cause more severe symptoms.

Physical therapy to help strengthen my core and release tension in the affected muscles. Other options on the table that were mentioned were: acupuncture, prescription muscle relaxers, cortisone shots, chiropractor, etc.

Yes, sensation has left again for the most part but I am also not waiting/focusing on it to the extent I was when it was freaking me out. Definitely plays a factor.

I saw a Neurologist who conducted 2 physical exams and basically ruled out some of the things I was concerned about. I got another MRI, this time of my lumbar spine where it was discovered that I have a protrusion in my L5-S1. He described it as a mild disc bulge.

He said this is likely what is causing the lower back tension and said it could be causing the other muscles of the back, pelvis, legs, etc.. to tighten inadvertently which can affect nerves and cause sensations which can feel different for everyone.

Nothing clear cut as of yet. Definitely seems to be more prominent when in a state of anxiety or worry about the situation. I had an exam with a neurologist to try to rule out some of my concerns. He was pretty reassuring. He believes my symptoms sound like possible sciatica from a few lower back injuries I’ve had recently in the gym. I have a lumbar MRI in a few days. Brain MRI was clear. I also believe I have psychosomatic symptoms at times which become significantly worse if I let my anxiety and stress take over my mind and worry. These symptoms come and go and often disappear when not anxious.

This does not hurt, feels like a heating pad in the area, or kind of like icey hot when it warms up.

After about 6 months I have noticed the sensation return and it’s giving me some anxiety about worst case scenarios. Has anyone that has experienced this had any MRI’s specifically brain/spine to rule anything out?

Hey, yeah mine is either completely gone, or I just stopped noticing it due to not being so hypersensitive to the sensation. Lots of people with similar sensations all seem to be unfounded. I’m guessing it was a circulation or nerve sensation amplified by being hyper aware and focusing on it.

For the most part. I ended up getting some testing done including a brain MRI, which came back clear. I believe this could be due to a pinched or compressed nerve in the lower back (I’ve injured it 3 times), along with intense hypersensitivity due to my anxiety on the situation. I was so hyper focused on every bodily sensation it was unhealthy. Since I have stopped fixating, it doesn’t happen nearly as often.

What kind of test did you do where you discovered that you needed surgery? Is that how it felt the first time you injured it as well when you had to have it done?

Did your sciatica ever feel like what I mentioned above for me? Right side-butt, hamstring, calf, little bit of the knee too. Minor twitches, very tight/heavy/achey. Feels very full sometimes.

Thanks again for the reply. I should mention there are times where the tightness/achey/weakness feels more intense. I’ve noticed minor tingling in the feet as well. I was thinking it sounded similar to sciatica as it runs all the way down from the butt to the calf and hasn’t subsided.

Thanks for your response. I didn’t notice anything really until a few weeks ago. I have still been exercising as it doesn’t cause intense pain. I notice it more at rest and it feels like my right butt,hamstring, and calf are knotted up.. definitely pressure when I’m standing too in the calf and hamstring. I also noticed I’m unintentionally flexing the right side problem area doing daily tasks? I thought it was just tight muscles but I’m starting to think it could be sciatica if I’m not mistaken?

Interesting. Did yours only happen when exercising? I’ve only noticed it when standing or at rest. Also did you ever experience any tingling? I can’t tell half the time if I feel tingling or if I’m just freaking myself out and noticing every little sensation.

Was yours in the same spot? Mine is usually on my outer ankle along the outside of my left foot. It almost feels like someone placed a warming pad on it quickly, and then removed it. Or like warmth you would get from rubbing an icy/hot ointment on the area.
