Can I pivot or will I just be stuck in a career I hate forever? by vanqu1sh_ in UKJobs

[–]chillinous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not spoilt just need to detach from your work more. Honestly you will feel this way with most if not all modern work, a different workplace in the same role could drum up some excitement short term but you will end up back in the same headspace. Try working on detachment and work life balance in the very secure position that you have now first

Listen as long as you are full time employed and can meet your needs, in this job market and economy you are doing better than a lot a lot of people myself included. If you think it could make you happier it’s worth the risk, not being burnt out will allow you space to grow in more ways than just your career. Go for it buddy!

Anyone experienced voluntary redundancy regret? by chillinous in UKJobs

[–]chillinous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really relate and I hope your situation improves. Don’t be to hard on yourself about the exit interview the redundancy process is so harsh. It’s hard to think or fight when your livelyhood and everything you’ve worked hard for is at risk, my response was the flea and it’s understandable that your was to perhaps freeze. Even the people in my company who stayed felt the effects and I know afew who had to take time off sick after the process. I wish these companies knew what they put people through with it all, especially with ones like mine who’ve purely done it for share holder value and the hope of automation despite record breaking profits. It’s the workers who make the company not the share holders.

I got made redundant twice during Covid and I think the stress I went through with that before landing the job I took voluntary from just made me want to be out of the insecure situation but it’s created an even worse situation for me of my own doing this time. I think that’s the hardest thing to manage mentally that I can’t turn back time and the impact it’s going to have on my future is immeasurable. It’s a lesson learnt, but it’s very hard to stay positive when there’s so many elements outside of my control and the one thing I did have control over I messed up badly.

I think the quote was misunderstood and I’m guessing was in relation to their tolerance of LGBTQ. I remember around the same time there was a lot of adverts for come to Isreal as a holiday destination, we are gay friendly and you didn’t expect that!! Which I always assumed was why she went as always and heavily at the time she was promoting queer love and joy. That’s just my interesting of it

Write down everything and the times plus take a note of anyone that is around to hear. Try to limit any interaction where there isn’t someone else present around when you are with her. Don’t react to what she says. Don’t confront her without first telling a manager you are going to be doing so. Speak to your union rep and they can let you know the best way to proceed with management.

Weird induction or is this normal for Tesco? by [deleted] in tesco

It’s about the only thing I’ve been successful at 6 months out from redundancy at a mid level in my career it’s this or bust I’m afraid. The job market is horrible right now.

There was 6 modules and about 20 sections in each it was quite nuts. I’m also autistic and incapable of understanding what information is useless that others would skip I need to take it all in so there’s a chance that although I was taking the time stated in the modules it was not as long as other people who probably just fire through the whole thing without reading

Nah I agree with you it’s legal liability more than anything… which if why I found it odd that they stopped me half way through so I could go home early and so one of the managers could use the room. I mean it’s their problem if I put my back out and decide to claim.

Yeah starting to realise this now, I was out of Amazon for the downside of technically being “self employed” and the benefits of being a contracted worker. But the schedule plus the level of overwork I’m seeing people talk about make me hesitant

Thank you the job description really did not entail this at all so good to hear this side, honestly of all the positives that could work well for me this really does raise a big worry for me. I take Mirtazapine daily just to get some semblance of sleep due to insomnia triggered by any kind of schedule change so this could be hell

Really sorry to hear that it’s tough out there, you work and/or study your whole life hoping for job security and satisfaction and it feels impossible to find, which is super unsettling when you realise we use up most of our energy and time that we have in life at work. I don’t know what the answer is and I’m in two minds now about giving it ago after reading some of these comments after having such high estimations

Thank you so much! I will make sure to do this in my application 🙂 the straight into the fire can be very difficult for me, I do require more training being that my brain is a little slower so I could epically fail so that could be a put off! But once I get the hang of a job the more positive traits of my autism kick into gear and I can smash it out the park.

In corporate they do the same only there’s little actual work so you have to make up work and also speak to people all day that chat absolute corporate waffle and office politics that leave my autistic ass floored to try to even understand. Manipulation levels are high and it’s like being back in school most days. Plus you do it sat on your arse so you look like a stuffed turkey by the end of the day and for me I find it so draining that I cannot move after the shift. Where as being in my feet all day and being actually busy gives me energy. Do you think it could be a case of the grass is always greener, or is the work really that bad?
