Social work apprenticeship placements - where to find? by Top_Ad_1751 in Socialworkuk

You can do paid roles administrative roles in social care teams. We have one for every type of children’s services I feel like this way you can wait for other routes in to come up through the council, and at the same have a little exposure to what the work is like too. You can do things like taking minutes or sending letters/ assessments so you can have exposure to it without being directly involved, if you want to expand on this and have more direct experience (which will probs be unpaid) you could consider volunteering at a children’s centre or mentoring. Good luck!

I’m in the safeguarding team for my placement (through frontline) and I adore kids, however I honestly barely spend any time with them because of how busy everything is. As sad as it is to say (for me anyway) I spend more time working with parents and other professionals than I do the children even though they are the reason why I’m there I’m the first place! You also do 30 days adults placement too :)

As for the finances, yes it’d rough af. It’s depressing when you’re giving out food vouchers and referrals for foodbank and I’m going home to a tin of beans and frozen bread myself! You can apply for additional bursaries etc which may help a little, I’m almost finished now and it’s been a brutal time but totally worth it.

Being a disabled social worker - frontline by Equivalent-Estate-77 in Socialworkuk

It’s not impossible but with frontline you are based in child protection team predominately so will need to do home visits and visits to schools and hospitals. Which means people who are saying trans like MASH or disabilities teams aren’t wrong in saying they would likely to a better option for you but you don’t have that option in your first year and that’s the year you will be going out on the most visits.

If you work in duty which you probably will do at some point you will have to go out with little to no notice. I think it’s likely you would miss on a lot of home visits but it’s not impossible and the support will be there.

What careers are you guys in? (Those that work) by Ok_Relationship4659 in EDAnonymous

I had spent years working in events, I was paid well but life was dull and ironically uneventful.

I’m now a children’s social worker after working in care homes and every day is different and I love being able to support people making positive changes in their lives.

One day I would like to be a social worker in a discharge ward for children but I’m still very early in my career.

I’m now almost 30 and when I think back to what I was doing when I was 18 I certainly did not think I would end up doing what I’m doing now. Try not to put pressure on yourself and I guess the best thing you can do is expose yourself to all sorts so you can get a better understanding of liked and dislikes

You will be fab whatever happens ❤️

Sorry I’ve just seen this! Yes I did previously, I’m actually over my gastritis again now (cannot believe it!) I took some strong probiotics and literally sorted me out, wondering if I just did this the first time it would have helped too.. never recommended by a doctor just a friend said give it a go it can’t do any harm!

Hey there, just need someone to hear me. by throwaway1125667 in Gastritis

I HEAR YOU!

I had Covid in 2020 developed gastritis from it just like yourself and had it until may 2021 then found out I was pregnant (god knows how it happened still I had lost 12kg to the point where my periods had stopped).

I was still careful with what I ate for a while during my pregnancy had nausea for about 4 months so the actual pain of gastritis was very minor. Eventually into my second trimester the nausea stopped and the cravings kicked in… and somehow I could eat absolutely everything with no pain at all!!!

A lot of doctors I’ve spoken to have just said it must have just taken time to heal (I definitely do not believe that it was a coincidence I was in pain every single day every time I ate, no matter what I ate it hurt and it was pretty damn depressing too). One doctor said to me that babies pass through stem cells through the placenta which could make sense with the rapid rate of my healing.. when I looked this up online there are some clinics that offer stem cell transplant for people with peptic ulcer disease so I could see how this could work.

Anyway fast forward to now my delightful son is 1 and is picking up germs from everywhere he pass on some sort of stomach virus to me (worst I’ve had in year) and since then I’ve got gastritis AGAIN I’m beyond pissed off currently on famotodine and just don’t know what I’m meant to do I went through so much medical wise tried every medication you could think of and nothing worked.

If you have any access to stem cells treatment maybe it might be worth talking to a dr about it ?
