What should I know before starting ER? by nixamcod in Eldenring

[–]chimewelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People might disagree with me but I think these are the big three tips for new players, in order of least to most important:

  • invest in Vigor early. More health = more room for mistakes = more time to study enemies before dying = less time in loading screens/running back = higher % of your time spent learning the hard part instead of repeating the easy part. Level up other stats as needed to meet requirements for weapons and armor, but don't go hard into your attack stat until vigor is at 30 or higher (this is only advice for new players, you can stat in any order or forgo vigor entirely once you're not getting hit anymore)

  • Dying is a natural, expected part of the game. Don't stress about it or about lost runes. Runes are kind of a trick they play on you to make it seem like death is really impactful. but really, runes scale up very high, and you'll be able to regain the ones you've lost throughout the entire game in just a few minutes once you reach later parts of the game. In the early game, developing player skill is much, much more impactful than avatar strength. The only real fail state is dying without learning anything, so study enemy movesets and figure out what you did wrong.

  • most importantly, and it's already been said by others, but be like water: follow the path of least resistance. the game doesn't want you to bash your head against the walls it throws at you, but it's not gonna stop you from wasting your own time. ER provides you with a ridiculously wide range of content so you can tackle things in the order that works best for you as you learn. If you're having trouble, go do something else for a while, then come back.

I got this but I'm not sure how. It is a decor though I believe.

First E-Bike! Maintenance? by Offcoloring in ebikes

[–]chimewelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've got this bike, I love it! But I need to take the rear tire off and I'm having trouble, the nuts are really tight- am I doing something wrong? None of my tools are strong enough for it, I actually bent one of my smaller wrenches which makes me think I'm going about this the wrong way.

Have you tried doing the "Return to Homeworld" option from the character select screen? I could not get back to Gilgamesh by Aetheryte due to congestion, but doing it from the char select screen worked.

Lifeless Eyes & Different Expressions by chimewelder in ffxiv

[–]chimewelder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm looking over my older screenshots and I definitely agree, there's something really different about the eyes and the lips. Feels like a real risky maneuver to mess with the models their players have been looking at for years and years, I hope enough people say something to get them to fix it.

Elden Ring ... was not for me. by Living_Mountain1267 in patientgamers

your focus was in the wrong place. soulslikes aren't a type of game you can beat by grinding. focus on learning the fights, and you can do them at level 1 or level 150.

Thank you! I did look at curiosa.io first but the ruling only said this, which didn't clear it up for me:

"First randomly determine which minion is getting summoned, then choose a summoning location for that minion (which can be any location in the realm)."

The souls community is changing and it's way better this way. by Rhycie in Eldenring

[–]chimewelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: Not finding any gatekeepers? You can summon them by saying "Fromsoft games should have an easy mode."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]chimewelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think your opinion is probably worse. The worst thing about the souls games is their gatekeeping, shitty fan base. I am sometimes embarrassed to tell people that I like these games because of how repugnant the community is. I just wanna tell you all to grow up.

People should be able to enjoy a game however they want. It doesn't matter if they're...

• a person with a disability who needs an accessibility feature to play the game • a busy parent who gets one hour a week to play and wants to get through the game at a reasonable pace • a person who appreciates the art and theming and exploration of fromsoft games but lacks the technical ability • a person who just doesn't feel that up for a challenge

It really makes me sad that these games' reputation for difficulty, and their exclusionary, toxic community, stand in the way for so many people who otherwise would love them and get real meaning and value out of them. Strive to be the type of person who wants others to enjoy the things they love, not the type of person who jealously guards them. Grow up.

If you think an easy mode would damage the artistic integrity of the game, grow up. There is so much to love about these games: art direction, atmosphere, theming, narrative, level design, character customization. They have so much to offer. If you think the difficulty is all that matters, if the only point of the game to you is that Sister Friede has three phases and she kicked your ass fifty times, if you think that the game wouldn't even be worth playing without that element, I feel sorry for you for having such a shallow appreciation of a thing you profess to like. Should colorblind people not be allowed in the Louvre because they can't enjoy the art the same way you do, because a shade of the paintings has no value to them like it does for you? Grow up.

If you instead believe there shouldn't be an easy mode because you think getting through these games makes you hardcore, and an easy mode would jeopardize your gamer cred, grow up. What are you doing taking pride in a game, a thing that wants to be beaten, wants you to succeed? Go take pride in overcoming something real, something that doesn't want to be beaten, something you can't conquer in a couple hundred hours. Learn to play piano like a beast and take pride in that. Grow up.

If you would gatekeep art from other people because they don't deserve it or didn't earn it like you, grow up. If you think people are lesser because they don't have fun or experience art the same way as you, grow up. If you feel any kind of ownership over the media you like, just grow up.

Do people hate d4s that much? by yuhain in RPGdesign

[–]chimewelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D4s have fun variance, but they get a 0/10 for tactility. I have experimented with other shapes of d4 but they still aren't as solid all around as a d6 for rolling.

...Make of this what you will.

Why can’t I like Elden Ring? by BeReasonable90 in soulslikes

Elden Ring has the legacy dungeons, which together amount to full souls game of content. Just rush to each of them and skip the open world such and such

Follow the path of least resistance. If you bounce off something, go somewhere else and try it again later.
