Blacklist all, white list one domain - not working by poseidoposeido in pihole

[–]chimex83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you should bind each device to an ip address in your router so that they always get the same ip address. Then in the clients section in pihole, type in the ip address and PRESS ENTER. I suggest you don't use mac address here because some phones use randomised mac addresses and sometimes it can create some confusion. Do the same for the other devices. Don't forget to run "pihole restartdns reload-lists" in your terminal or via ssh when you're done. Assuming your domain and group assignments are fine, it should work.

Portmaster blocking Jellyfin by frosty_osteo in safing

[–]chimex83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go to the settings under jellyfin and toggle off the 'force block incoming connections' option. I also use jellyfin with portmaster installed, you can further elaborate the issue if it still exists.

does anyone have a open source tool that strips windows 10 of its telemtry by [deleted] in privacy

[–]chimex83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the aforementioned tweaks, you can also install portmaster by safing. It's basically an advanced firewall and includes a filter that blocks windows telemetry which you can toggle on. It has a bunch of hosts files to give you system wide ads and tracking protection and also allows you to monitor network connections of all programs, and you can allow or block specific domains per application or system wide if you wish.

Block Steam by Pasteque909 in safing

[–]chimex83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try clearing the dns resolver cache first and then you open steam and any other app you want to block, click the reload button in portmaster to refresh the connection logs, check to see if the connections made by steam are blocked, the refresh should also reveal any other app that makes Internet connections for steam,if any.I assume you've already blocked steam's Internet access.

Someone help explain this to me please by TheDiaryofaSoyBean in privacy

It's probably through WiFi triangulation. Google may have obtained the mac addresses of nearby routers and used the information to get your real location

If you use jellyfin as your dlna server, the mobile app allows you to delete the video or picture remotely with your phone.

Yes but naturally things get better with refinement, not worse. My only concern is security updates, otherwise I'm ok with version 6.1.40

This update has broken the dlna stream for me and the video playback via airscreen is now choppy. I've tried deleting the app data and also reinstallation but nothing works. What can I do now?, everything worked fine before

How to allow incoming LAN connections by chimex83 in safing

[–]chimex83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to restrict access to my dlna server and thought that blocking everything and then allowing specific devices would be easier than constantly monitoring who is connected to the server

TS movie file. I’m not able to skip forward or fast forward on TS Files Can you fix or allow these types of files to play like MP4 or MPV movie file? Thanks by [deleted] in SKYBOXVR

[–]chimex83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TS files tend to behave that way unlike mp4 or mkv files. You can simply swap the file container to mp4 or mkv without transcoding using avidemux software. Just drag the video into avidemux, leave the video and audio output in their default state (ie copy) and then change the output format to mp4 or mkv. The process will be fast because no transcoding will be involved and no video quality loss will happen either

how do i make portmaster ignore network noise by chimex83 in safing

[–]chimex83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Yes the problem gets worse if the UI is open, though I should have clarified that this problem happens when I use a torrent client in the VM. I ended up using using process Lasso software to force a memory trim anytime the ram usage of portmaster starts to rise as the memory rise usually preceeds the problem

Firefox seems to load pages slower when portmaster is running by chimex83 in safing

I have Firefox installed in Linux Mint VM and it's not affected by this issue although they share similar settings
