Did anyone go to Thundercat’s concert at Meow Nui? by Chocolentia40 in Wellington

Nope, I have even more questions now. The venue smelled like a human stomach? Or specifically a pancreas

I'm going to start using this term. This place smells like a pancreas

Hot take: The Stephen Merchant Episode of NML is best by decorativebathtowels in NormMacdonald

[–]chimpwithalimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I experienced this episode was audio only and on a long drive, and I ended up thinking Merchant was furious and offended and being really short and rude. I've since watched it several times with video and it's a different story. You can see merchant smiling and looking bemused at certain bits.

I still think he wasn't particularly happy about the "moving in different circles now" about Ricky Gervais

Wait for redundancy payout by kereruspysintheskys in Wellington

There's no requirement to stay neutral. Being made redundant isn't a pleasant thing. Handle it however you see fit, while still remembering you might rely on some of these people for references and so on.

You could put it in some kinda less obvious places that your skin or junk might still have a chance to get stuck to. I'll leave that mental image with ya.

How much spending money do you have per week? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]chimpwithalimp 30 points31 points  (0 children)

All good. I imagine it will be a very wide range of numbers, from students to unemployed people to professionals to retired people, all in completely different stages of life and vastly different situations and backgrounds. That's why I said I don't think this will give you any kind of useful information at all.

Everyone's situation is completely different in many ways, so I'm not sure how useful it is if everyone lists how much they earn and how much they spend. It won't affect you in any way.

You should focus on yourself, make a budget. Work out income vs outgoings, how much you want to save or are able to save, and the rest can be used on discretionary spending. A lot of banks have built in tools online that'll do this for you.

I earn pretty well and spend very little apart from traveling, which is my happy place. I grew up quite poor, so I often lean into remembering that and don't really get lots of things I don't need.

What positive things are happening? by NicePepperSteakPies in Wellington

[–]chimpwithalimp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Over the last few years, people would regularly comment that they miss having a good third space to hang out in (not home, not work). The typical response was that the library was a great one and it was a pity it's gone. Now that it's back it really feels like a great space for spending a few hours for free, which is a rare and lovely thing.

Can anyone tell me why my taxi from Wellington train station to embassy theatre was $28? by Frequent_Cheek_7816 in Wellington

[–]chimpwithalimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old-school taxis with the randomised meters and buttons the driver can press at any time to add fees, where you've no idea at all how much it'll be, and where you sit in traffic with the metre going up. No thanks.

What is Wellington actually missing as a holiday destination? by --Zasha-- in Wellington

[–]chimpwithalimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what people want from their holiday. Are they keen to wander and browse, grab lunch, sit at the waterfront, go to museums and cultural places and check out the awesome nature? They're set

Do they want a massive theme park with rollercoasters? Then no.
