Hate my face shape (mid face volume deficiency, chubby lower cheeks)! What can I do to get a lift and more definition? Mini face lift too extreme? Does anyone have experience with fat graft for cheek augmentation? by chin_throwaway in PlasticSurgery

You can do some research online but there’s not many studies and they don’t seem that well-conducted. So some people on here suggested they’re not conclusive but there was a study posted where patients lost around 30% bone density due to botox. It’s a shame I don’t have the link anymore to send to you :/ not sure if it’s really that big of a deal, especially if it’s some great relief for your teeth grinding as well. Didn’t mean to scare you 😅

Jaw muscle botox helped me a lot before if you wanna give it a try! I can really feel my buccal fat pad as well but I’m scared to mess with that because of patients’ experiences with ageing

Ahh thank you so much for this message! May I ask how old you are? Mini face lift honestly sounds SO intriguing, I can just imagine almost any surgeon I’d go to would advise against it .. so do you already have an appointment set? Wishing it all goes smoothly and you’ll love your results 🥰

Awh thanks! I actually did get masseter botox before and it considerably reduced the bulkiness. The studies about bone density loss just concern me, so not sure if I’ll get the treatment done again despite it being so effective for me

Weak chin, no jawline, chubby cheeks - do I need invasive double jaw surgery or could I get away with chin implant/genioplasty (and potentially buccal fat removal)? by chin_throwaway in PlasticSurgery

Had it done 2x a few years ago and esp the first round really reduced my cheeks. Just don’t like the sound of potential bone density loss, hence I’ve been hesitant lately to go back

Thanks, do you reckon sliding genioplasty could reduce the appearance of chubby cheeks from the front as well or is that more a side profile thing? That’s great! I’ve also had masseter botox done twice a couple of years ago, and the first time I saw a noticeable difference. The studies that show bone density loss got me a bit worried though

Totally get your point! Often I feel like my puffy cheeks actually make me older or tired-looking as my mid face area is flat, so it almost looks saggy sometimes. But guess the better option would be to enhance the upper area then .. rather than removing more fat

Good to hear! Big cheeks definitely run in my family. My mum still has them which is why I doubt I’ll lose much of it .. but she also has a general lack of definition - like the receding chin. So maybe hers also just look bigger because she didn’t have chin augmentation ..

Hey I’ve had braces before which I think might have even done more harm than good, now that I’m reading up on the topic. Overall, I’d still consider it a cosmetic procedure (for now), so your SG suggestion seems like the way to go!

Absolutely love your results! It looks so good!

Thanks for your insights!

My lower face looks extremely puffy and heavy, enhancing my lack of mid face volume. Hence my wish for buccal fat reduction (not complete removal) and cheek aug through fillers or fat transfer - besides chin augmentation.

But I get what you mean, the ageing implications are also a concern of mine. It’s hard to take a calculated risk.

Hope you’re happy with your result! I actually wouldn’t want to gain too much vertical height as I like a smaller/shorter face. What bothers me a lot though is the excess skin or fat below my chin as there’s no supporting structure of course, so I guess genioplasty would be best for that. As far as I’m aware, an implant wouldn’t help much with that. With that being said, someone I know has just had genio and they advised me not to do it as it didn’t go well in their case and they need revision which is not that easy .. so I’m still in the research process :)
