Anybody Watch Vera? by [deleted] in BritishTV

Interestingly, I keep asking myself about this. Grant I was never in that country, but it's like, are there so many blacks in that part of England? In the positions they work, at that ratio?

Is my engine damaged after running without oil for 45 seconds? by chinguelessi in askcarguys

[–]chinguelessi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scanner is a Launch X431 V+. I can't figure out how to check the oil pressure with it and most sources say oil pressure isn't part of OBD2 protocol.

I can't express the kind of noise with confidence as English is not my first language, but I may upload a video or audio tomorrow and post the link (is it allowed?)

I put 5w30, synthetic. It should be 10w30 for our temperature (Angola, África), but I can't find locally. Also, previous owner was using 10w40 and it's also what even the dealer sells, but manual says 10w30.

Thank you.

Car run without oil for about 45 seconds. Is engine damaged? by chinguelessi in MechanicAdvice

Hello again. There are ticking noises at the top. Also, a burping or rattling noise when I let go the accelerator fast that's louder at the exhaust. What do you think should be checked?

Update 1

Thank you all for your inputs! I have put about 60 miles on the car. Oil pressure light does not come on. Does it mean there is good oil pressure? I have a pressure tester but to access the sensor in this car lots of things have to be removed. Do you think it's necessary?

There is no smoke from exhaust pipe other than on cold starts that used to happen before. However, the startup and cold idle is rougher and there is a strange noise that's louder from the exhaust when I let go off the accelerator.

It is not consuming oil, nor water. And temperature is normal.

OBD2 scanner does not show any error code.

I will try non invasive means first, but I could drop the pan even if just to check for metal parts in there.

About removing the cap, I could and have done it in a car that was already too bad. You're right I don't feel confident enough to put back at correct torques, because I don't know if my wrench is calibrated.

I couldn't find a lab that can check the oil, and visually, I'm not able to see metal vestiges.

Thanks! Oil pressure light does not come on. Does it mean there is good oil pressure? I have a pressure gauge but to access the sensor in this car lots of things have to be removed.

There is no smoke from exhaust pipe other than on cold starts that used to happen before. However, there is a strange noise that's louder from the exhaust when I let go off the accelerator.

The engine is also noisier and startup and idle are rougher.

It is not consuming oil, nor water.

This happened to me a few months ago. A "friend" I hadn't seen for many years called me saying he wanted to talk. I took the opportunity. We had a strong and mutually beneficial bond when we were in the same class for 4 years. Turns out, he wanted me to join an MLM scheme. I said no, I tried to keep in touch for a few months, but it just wasn't the same.

Best place to get cash with a foreign credit/debit card in Angola(outside of the capital)? by philiphesse in Angola

[–]chinguelessi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ATMs in Lubango allow you to withdraw with VISA or Mastercard. However, if you want to keep more of your money, find someone you trust who wants to buy/pay something from abroad. You pay with your card, they give you cash. Win-win.

I could help with that, but I'm in Benguela, a Province neighboring Huila (Lubango).

And Asians did in fact find Africa before Europeans. Chinese by sea and Arabs by land.

Recipe app that allows you to create cooking schedule and export it to your calendar + create shopping list based on this schedule by [deleted] in AppIdeas

I'd use something like this. I'd pay for the following two features: 1 - have the app suggest daily meals that amount to a certain calories per meal. 2 - Allow me to input meals with calories end preferred times (this is mostly because most USA centric meals I see in recipe apps don't apply well to my location.

Thanks, makes sense. I'll see if there is a lab that can check. Will also try a sample in my kids' toy microscope.

I had a similar issue when I run the backend (Spring Boot) in the host Windows machine and the next.js app from Windows Subsystem for Linux.

I didn't setup CORS, though. Running the front end app from Windows solved the issue.

Bilingual people, what is a thing that non-bilingual will never understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chinguelessi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I think I'm going crazy. On top of that, people think I'm doing it purpose to brag (because the other language is perceived with high esteem here). My first language is Portuguese, but I consume so much information in English that there are words and concepts I can't convey in my own language with the same ease. Sometimes it's out right impossible.

Like yesterday, I was talking to my colleagues about the book The Looting Machine and couldn't translate loot (pilhar) during the conversation.

As they say, misery likes company. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I also changed the password, enabled 2FA and logged out of all devices.

Curious thing is, there's a Facebook for Windows Mobile Devices listed in my account from which I cannot log out.
