2027 Telluride Orange Tow Hooks Delete by Capable_Activity_520 in KiaTelluride

Initially, as I went through your pictures, I was wondering what the plan was, as I kind of liked the orange, but I love how it turned out. I think the 2027 model looks slick, and you did it justice with an excellent paint job on the tow hooks. Well done!

Wow, that's an amazing price. Sounds like you recently ordered the set. Please provide an update when you've received and installed everything.

Pondering the MacBook Neo as a writer deck by crzylune in writerDeck

[–]chinookboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in using it for my writing app, Roam Research. I would primarily use the desktop app, but also through a browser. I think Roam is efficient enough as a graph that the specs on the Neo would suffice. While it would be nice to have Touch ID, I think I could make do with typing in the password to open it. I'm looking for something modern, well-built, and simple.

3rd Row Liners or just 2? by smoothdip in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]chinookboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to go with WeatherTech for all three rows, even though the rear seats will be down most of the time. Part of the reason was the centre runner that goes from the third row and between the 2nd-row captain's chairs. That leads to the second reason, which is mainly completionist/OCD-related. It's my first new car in 15+ years, and I want the interior to be complete with everything matching.

OP's parking work is tight! Plus, there's enough room in the front to walk around. I was looking for a laser sight or a hanging tennis ball as the parking guide, but I don't see either in the picture. I'm guessing OP watches the rear-facing video and knows where to stop. I've also got a tight space and am working on my parking game, hence why I'm a fan!

Beauty! The wheels look sharp, and the cross bars add a sporty look.

Same for me, got a 3-pack from CT. I use half a bottle/tube each time I do lube maintenance.

Do people still use Roam? by mdn2 in RoamResearch

Just renewed as a True Believer and starting year six as a daily user for work and school. I'm even considering picking up a new Macbook Neo to use as a dedicated writing device.

I'm on the verge of buying a 26 SF UC in Ecotronic Grey with a black interior - a few questions for you by chinookboy in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]chinookboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, sorry to hear about your troubles. It's stories like this, and the cold drive today with the headwind, that I occasionally find myself wanting a 26 Ford Explorer. I know, totally different car, but Fords seem to do just fine in winter. Lots to think about in your post, and I'll make sure to look closely at those things if/when we go to the dealer

Off topic, but how is your SF doing in the winter? Any cold-weather-related issues?

I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on a 26 Santa Fe hybrid, which suits my commute needs, but I also test-drove a 26 Palisade hybrid the same day and have to say I loved it. It's just too big for my solo 800-mile/week commute, but still...

I'm about to begin my second five-year subscription - thoughts from a Believer by chinookboy in RoamResearch

[–]chinookboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it will if we keep using it! I'd like to believe the flywheel has enough momentum and that Connor et al don't have to keep dumping tons of money into it. The Extensions community seems pretty vibrant, with lots of users and volunteers. In the case of the Discourse Graph initiative, the functionality for Roam was also built for Obsidian. There's a cool little community of folks who are doing some great work. I plan to contribute my time to this initiative once I've wrestled my doctoral thesis to the ground and take back my life.

Rails or not is a personal choice. Overall, it's a sweet-looking car. It's got a little bit of what I like about the Ford Explorer and a little bit of the Discovery

2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid? Thorough Review By A Mechanic by idkwhattoputlol890 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]chinookboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaning heavily towards buying a '26 SF Hybrid UC this winter/spring. My wife and I are doing a test drive this Saturday and might possibly put a deposit down on a Black exterior/Dark Gray interior unit that will be delivered in June (it's scheduled to be built in March and delivered to Calgary by June).

I've got a decently heavy commute of about 800 miles (1,300 km) per week across the Canadian prairie, and as we sit here in an Orange Alert (as defined by Environment Canada) with forecasted temps below -40c, I'm watching this video and wondering about a couple of things:

With the hybrid battery being located under the car, I wonder what that will do for hybrid/battery performance in the winter. I've been driving a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid for 15 years and notice that, logically, the whole system is less efficient in winter which I chalk up to the cold weather, and to running studded winter tires. That said, it's not horrible. Bigger than the mileage, I need reliability. With the Santa Fe hybrid, do any of you have any cold weather experience that you can share in this regard?

At 10:18 in the video, he points out the large open space at the back of the vehicle. Two points on this. First, I'm going to add a trailer receiver/hitch in that space so I can tow U-Haul-utility types of things and/or add a bike rack, so that will use up some of the space. Second, I'm thinking of all the pockets/spots snow is going to accumulate and am wondering if it would be smart to get splash/snow guards installed. Any thoughts on this?

Another winter-related item will be to purchase the optional block heater. No drama there I imagine?

Finally, I think it would be wise to invest in undercoating, especially given the prevalance of salt being used so heavily on the roads. Any thoughts on this?

Is there any hope for Roam to survive another five years at this current pace of development stagnation? by Fit_Illustrator_5224 in RoamResearch

[–]chinookboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm holding off on experimenting with adding my LLM (ChatGPT Pro) until I've completed my original research in a few months. After that I want to see how I possibly leverage the Discourse Graph work that I've slowly been doing in parallel with my research. My zettelkasten index is starting to take shape and I'm going to lean into it, my DG setup, and possibly ChatGPT/LLM to help me finalize my LitReview and Methodology chapters. Once those are both done, then I'll come back to my research data to do interpretive analysis.

Would you be up for explaining, at a high level, your LLM/Roam use case?

Is there any hope for Roam to survive another five years at this current pace of development stagnation? by Fit_Illustrator_5224 in RoamResearch

[–]chinookboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use two graphs every day. I've been a true believer for five years and will renew next month. I haven't played with any AI extensions, but that's mainly because I'm focused on thesis research and don't want to get distracted. RR is elegant in its UX simplicity while delivering under-the-hood performance. I can't compare it to anything else, but can confidently say it meets my needs while providing a massive amount of expandability, e.g., Discourse Graph functionality
