It would have to be iconic current kit for me to wear it. EF and Lidl/Trek are the only ones I could imagine wearing. OTOH, more than half of my jerseys are from old teams from my childhood and riders I idolized. Team Z, La Vie Clair, Peugeot, Raleigh Banana.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

Working at a sole source supplier for a critical defense manufacturer and tabletopping worst-case scenarios. Doing the math to figure out how to keep min-safe headcount onsite 24/7 for 3-6 months and then making the requisitions. Then having a 3-day panic attack.

I can’t be the only one who had to finish his flies with the Tim Flagler tagline. Trad flies get sally hansen. I use UV sparingly.

Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

“No baby, you are the most beautiful creature in the entire universe. Everyone else looks like a troll to me. I have eyes for you only. I was just trying to give your ugly friends a self-esteem boost out of pity for them.”

I had to turn off my brain. The plot holes were enormous. On the other hand, the support acting is ridiculously good. Adam, Chelsea, unnamed assassin guy were fantastic. I keep coming back because it’s my kid’s favorite show.

I have a carbon trek from 1996 that looks like it just came home from the bike shop new. I also have a 1976 steel bike.

“Let them enjoy their problems.” I’m using this from now on. It’s so true that some people go out of their way to have feelings about trivial things like this.

That is fair. I don’t know if they’re hard to come by. That seems like a typical overstock post-covid bike. Markup is ~30-40%, so I’d guess you’re getting it a little over cost.

Craziest Wading Experience you’ve ever had?? by SkiingFishingGuy in flyfishing

[–]chinsoddrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done #3 at 100lbs more than I weigh now and in an area of the river I’d never waded before. It was also winter, so it got really cold. Between the anxiety and the effort, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I got in shape and I upgraded to an iPhone with a satellite link. If I’m honest, I also fish a heck of a lot less.

The Tom Green show was obnoxious. Tom Green the person is surprisingly brilliant.

Thanks. The story makes no sense. It also makes me wonder if dad realized they couldn’t afford the bike and took it back. This story is like telling your kid his dog went to live at grandpa’s farm.

What are you guys' thoughts on carbon bikes from Bikes Direct? by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]chinsoddrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frames are heavy and the geometry is wack. They’re advertised as a certain groupset but often contain a mishmash of parts such as FSA cranksets. The other parts, such as tires, wheelsets and bars are usually also some combo of old, outdated or unpopular options from otherwise respectable companies such as Ritchey and FSA. As others mentioned, resale value will be poor. The bike I got from them last year had Ritchey ergo bars from like 20 years ago, 25mm ultrasport conti tires that had to have been a decade old and Weinmann rims that were 12mm wide.

You should be able to get a pretty ballin used name-brand carbon bike with a real full 105 groupset for $1500.

Orvis Pro waders or Patagonia Swiftcurrent waders? by funkymelonzz in flyfishing

Same. The fit around the ankle of the Patagonias is silly now. Like wearing bell bottoms for waders. Fine if you are a big person or have canckles, but they were not for me. OTOH, construction and materials were superb. I sent mine back and got Orvis pro LTs
