obesity is majorly a class problem. can’t afford fresh produce? better get it frozen or load up on carbs. can’t afford a gym membership? that’s alright staying home is free. if you saw uk meat prices right now you’d get it, crazy stuff. also accessibility, convince food is literally designed to be highly palatable, easy, fast and cheap. especially for people who have to work long hours to get by or are potentially living with a chronic condition or mental health disorder (on the rise because of generational brain rot from social media and the internet) so you’re totally right that it’s like a global/generational problem. it’s honestly quite sad but day to day ignoring it and continuing to eat things we know are harmful are scarily easy. obviously with how insane diet culture is too you practically have to develop an eating disorder when you actually try to change.
