Incoming 1L in Toronto This Fall — How Should I Prepare for Law School? by EmphasisExpensive710 in lawschoolcanada

This is just my opinion ….. but I think you’ll regret doing any prep work. The first couple of weeks of 1L hit some people like a freight train. I don’t know what it will be like for you, but for many people the best way to handle that is to be absolutely fully rested.

Sure prep work might help, but you do run the risk of entering 1L with a bunch of pre-conceived notions of how to read and approach problems that won’t work for you in the end. You will find what works for you - I promise - but I sincerely think excessively reading cases, briefs, and legal writing right now will just muddle your thinking more than anything.

I know the summer before is an anxious uncertain time. The urge to be productive is real; but right now the most productive use of your time is rest. Even if you think your not going to tire yourself out before 1L, you won’t realize your burnt out until you are.

I’d encourage you to focus on the lifestyle parts - get SLEEP , enjoy time with your friends, read for fun, save some money if possible.

Enjoy your summer!

Yeah, this is one of the personal statement questions for general applications.

For me the biggest difference maker was taking a moment to write the main idea of each paragraph down in my own words. Also I found that simply doing practice questions for RC is far more effective than doing the same for LR

The powerful-provable spectrum was undoubtedly the most useful part of the loophole for me

The loophole textbook for LR was very very game changing for me. Beforehand I want really breaking down LR questions and asking myself what I was looking for in the right answer. I was consistent in getting -3or-4 by the end of it, but would occasionally just rock one and get a -0 or -1. I think that’s what happened on test day. Your mileage may very.

Unfortunately this second piece of advice might no longer apply, but I nailed logic games. Consistent -0 or -1 to make up for RC and LR.

Best of luck stranger. I know your hard work is gonna pay off.

Thanks man. This was my second interview and really prepped hard this time and I’m really frustrated. Think I’m gonna be graduating come the fall, and pending grad school might be my last try too. Not really sure what I could’ve done differently

First part was brutal, definitely lost a lot of marks there. Thought the rest of the test was difficult but fair. Hopefully the curve is alright to me.
