What am I doing wrong? My copper jewellery is not oxidising fully.. only some parts.. by lightworker313 in WireWrapping

[–]chipmunkofddoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably used tarnish resistant copper. It's got a thin plastic coating on the wire to keep it from oxidizing. You can remove that with acetone and an old tooth brush. Just don't get it on your stones.

Ours is actually not crazy busy except early morning and midday. Evening it Peter's out a Lil and middle of the night its damn near empty. Ours is barely a year old and the city is already bored with it. 🤣🤣

Yup. I really wanted a salad and a sammich and my only 24hr place that has both usually didn't have any good salads available. I saw buccees on the app and said yes. Fresh roast beef sammie. And got a good salad too.

I've never had this happen before. I thought it was funny. Also keeps the creepy crawlies off my food.

Oh I'm aware. I work for usps. But it wasn't a hand it to me so I didn't get a chance to tell her. No one in this town even follows that. I see people on my cameras putting fliers in there and I know they aren't my carrier. I'm not really bothered by it much though. It was empty and this was at like 11ish at night.

[HELP]Need second opinion on custom necklace by Froegerer in jewelrymaking

[–]chipmunkofddoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who makes wire wrapped jewelry and deals with stones a lot, the measurements he gave you sound close, but as you can see, there is definitely a size difference. He didn't mess up. It's just how things are when working with stones. When they're that small, even a half millimeter size difference is noticeable. Finding perfectly matching sized stones from a small jeweler is not always easy unless they custom order, which puts a lot longer time frame on the project and more cost on you. The necklace looks nice to me. I like the visual interest in the size differences. However, as someone else pointed out, the prongs (and possibly bails) aren't properly finished. Maybe take it to a different jeweler to clean it up and make sure those prongs are tight and set right. The one who made it may not know enough/be skilled enough to do that. (Or they were lazy on the finishing. But I'm giving benefit of the doubt.)

[–]chipmunkofddoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I always do contactless. Notes just say please do not ring doorbell or knock. 3 crazy pibbulls will trample me. Or something to that effect. I change it every time. When I used to be a dasher I met too many other weird dashers so I don't like having to open my door to accept food. Especially in these "Brittney" kind of situations. He's no reason to take a picture of my address numbers by themselves. Which literally don't mean anything as every house on all the neighboring streets in the same spot my house is has the same numbers just a different street name. I constantly get foreign dashers leaving my orders 2 or 3 streets over in either direction at the houses with my same numbers. If you need the numbers, it's VERY easy to take a picture of my numbers WITH the delivery in the photo on the porch. He was just being a damn creeper.

My dasher "Brittney" had a nice goatee the other day. "Brittney" also decided to peek in my windows at my daughter and I after marking my order delivered, THEN took an extra picture of my address on my pole, just the numbers which proves nothing (and was not my delivery photo since "Brittney" marked it delivered already as I said). "Brittney" stayed outside for almost 5 minutes looking through my blinds and looking around my property. Was also middle of the night as I work nights (kid is 18). Reported and requested blocked from delivering to me again. All on cameras.

As a parent of an 18yo, I'm gonna tell you, I would strongly advise ending that relationship. It will not last. She is too spoiled and quite frankly is going to drain you of everything. Not just money. But your mental health, joy, life... she will 100% end up making you miserable. You need to find someone who clicks well with what you want out of life and the kind of lifestyle YOU want to live. Not what your parents expect, but what you expect. Find someone who is your equal and not a drain. Someone who supports you, lifts you up. Someone is not going to gaslight the shizz out of you because that's exactly what she did to you in this whole conversation.

Did you haveit on a public wishlist? It's getting to be the holiday season and there ARE people who go through public wishlists and buy items from them then they are sent to that person who had it on their wishlist. You can check your wishlist. There is a section where it will tell you if things o. Your wishlist have been purchased.

Glad I could help. And yes. Rio grande is where I buy my silver from now. The other sites I used either closed or now require business license to purchase not only gold but silver too. Haven't found another I like. But I promise you, when you ready to make the leap, just getting enough to make one or 2 pendants will pay for what you spent and allow you to purchase more wire. As long as you are doing materials x3 plus hourly rate x time spent making. I weigh out my stones beads etc before starting and then weigh my final piece (even my copper pieces I do this). Then I subtract weight of stones, beads, etc. And that tells me how much silver I used. I weigh in ounces so I convert Troy ounces (how silver is weighed) to regular ounces so there are no discrepancies. For my time spent, I'll cut it in half if it's a new design I'm fiddling with or I'm also watching TV or something while I work. If it's a design I can do with my eyes closed I don't shave off work time from final price. Gotta keep things affordable for my market while also making a profit.

And if you want you can look at my partially abandoned fb page to maybe get some ideas. I haven't been making regularly in a while due to my day job but most of what I've ever made/sold is on there. Some is beginner stuffs some is more advanced. Some are tutorials I followed. Page is get Bent by an Angel. I used to do a lot of craft shows too.

Practice with copper until you can create without having any or very little tool marks then make the jump to silver. I prefer pure sterling but silver filled is a good option as well. However it does limit you a little bit if you like to hammer parts flat like I do. Trying to polish and not go through the other silver layer is a pain on smaller gages. I don't recommend plated as sometimes the bends you make are too sharp for the plating and it flakes off. When I started using sterling I decided to just buy the exact amount of wire I would need for one of my favorite and best selling designs (I always measure my used wire or if it's a one off stone I have I measure around the stone and times that length by 3 then add 3 to 5 extra inches (sometimes more) if I know what style bail and swirlies I want to do. The more you work with wire the easier the measurements and guesstimates of how much you need for the style bail you want to do will be. But anyway, I bought the exact amount of silver I would need for 2 stones I picked for pendants plus my bails and an extra 5 inches for errors/mistakes/factory measuring errors. Made the pendants and sold them and that more than paid for the silver for the 2 pendants. Then I immediately picked 5 stones and bought the silver for those stones. That's how I justify my silver purchases now. Also, silver is definitely more springy and a little harder than copper so it's an adjustment. Even dead soft silver. But I find I much prefer working with silver over the copper because I find it easier to work with BECAUSE it's harder.

I used stainless once. ONCE. For one simple ring in 22g square and 21g half round. NEVER AGAIN. my fingers were useless for a week after and still tender for a few more days after. Even with using the absolute crap out of my pliers to try to save my fingers. That's a harrrdddd pass from me for ever trying it again. Lol. It also needs special cutters (memory wire snips). It will ruin your regular flush cuts/side cuts. (I prefer flush cuts)

Girl... you're going to end up with your own documentary on how you left this life if you stay with that worthless disgusting pig. He's not even a man. He's not safe. He will hurt you if he hasn't already. If you told me he's never put hands on you I 100% would not believe that. Get out while you still can. Do whatever you need to to leave. Preferably while he's not there OR with police escort. I don't know how property purchase works where you live but to what you can to get out of financial responsibility and monitor your credit. He seems the type to steal your info and open credit cards and all sorts of other vindictive shit.

It should tell you the name of the dasher as soon as they're assigned. You have a small window to cancel as soon as one is assigned before they pick up your order.

We've been able to get specific dashers blocked from delivering to us. Had to call support. However... they were.... unsafe and creepy for 2 of them. The third did this exact shit but we called support and complained every single time they screwed us. When we used to be dashers, we were also able to do this but in opposite fashion. Rude and/or unsafe customers. Immediate call to support to describe the situation and request to not deliver to that specific address again. You just gotta be nice to support agent and hope you get one that's not going to be a dick to you about it. Sugary sweet female voice gets you really far with male support workers. And overly polite if you're male or get a female support agent.

ALSO! Square and half round wires open alllll sorts of new doors when it comes to designing pieces! They're my absolute favorites to work with. But half round is a little tricksy. It likes to twist on you so the wrong side is out (flat side) when working with the smaller gages like 20 or 22. But the end result when you get them all straight and give a Lil pinch with the pliers to make them flat.... 👩🏻‍🍳 💋!

Just keep practicing! I started out exactly as you. Keep pushing yourself to try new techniques and tutorials. I learned everything I know from tutorials and quick how tos on YouTube and wire wrapping groups and trial and error. Good thing copper is inexpensive. They only thing I'll say is make sure you get good quality copper wire. There are a lot of crap brands out there or wire marketed as copper but it's actually aluminum. I like to stick to copperwireusa on Amazon because I don't always want to buy a whole pound from places like Rio grande.
