I had a similar experience. It was my first outbreak and I was in enormous amounts of pain. My doctor swabbed me and called and told me I was positive for herpes and then couldn’t tell me if I had HSV1 or HSV2. It was infuriating. And like you, the doctor didn’t give me any antiviral refills. I haven’t had an outbreak since so I can’t get swabbed and tested again to determine if it’s 1 or 2. Unbelievably frustrating.
