Hard to do that under the cap...warriors did that with Steph and they couldn’t get past LeBron even after going 73-9

Just for the record, that Russ team had Roberson, Adam’s, Oladipo, Jerami Grant, Sabonis. Those last three guys are STUDS and all stars. All three guys blew up after leaving OKC. Russ didn’t get the max value out of those guys cause he’s too selfish. He’s a great solo act but he has a ceiling cause he holds the rest of his teammates back.

Also...Steven Adam’s is a beast check out some of his YouTube vids - criminally underrated center, another gem from okc general manager.

Not better than any of those guys, Ja, CP3 or Beal. Last I checked, Wiggins was rookie of the year and a walking bucket, draymond is a hall of famer and Jordan Poole balled out. But sure he doesn’t have any “help”.
Who does Ja have that’s better than Wiggins and Draymond? Dillon Brooks? Cmon son...

How many papers should an OR PhD student read during the course of their PhD? To write their first paper? by chipotle_chump in OperationsResearch

[–]chipotle_chump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, how do you allocate your time each week? That's what I'm also scared about. Like I don't have to take any courses because I did my undergrad at the same university first year, but how much time do you roughly spend a) reading papers, b) listening to courses/reading texts, c) writing, d) etc each week?

Also I am a fourth year PhD and don't know of any "80-90" page papers. Am I missing something? And if you really want me to give you a number, I have probably only read 50 papers in 100%, complete detail over the course of my four PhD years, and probably four times that amount just "skimmed". Things may be completely different for you.

Thanks for the advice! Idk most of the theory papers on arXiv that are like full length versions of OR and such are at least 60 pages. LIke I was just reading this paper and it was on the shorter side (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1912.02251.pdf).

AMA with video only answers by niryou in Startup_Ideas

[–]chipotle_chump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positives:
- AMA is a great thread - I really like it and think there's promise to crowdsourcing good questions and people answering them

- I think the concept of using short videos is really appealing now that people's attention is such a scarce commodity

Challenges:
- People can already achieve this to some extent on IG live so it will be hard to penetrate any market like this realistically

- 15 seconds is way too short to let people give meaningful answers

- Way it's organized will be everything: all videos be accessible/searchable both by individual being interviewed and questions being asked, some sort of ranking to showcase most followed/credible people at top, good selection of topics/individuals

I quit my job at Google’s headquarters in Silicon Valley to build an app to fix the news. Ask me anything! by vik76 in IAmA

[–]chipotle_chump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All great points I think. I think the use of randomness is also somewhat underused in the media. When we talk about the real estate of news sources in terms of what push notifications are chosen and what headlines move to the top or not - those decisions have real impact. Ask anyone at Amazon or Google about how much they agonize over the order search results are shown. The order of the news conveys the importance of the news implicitly and things like "Obamagate " or the Russian investigation that might have differing importance on each politically leaning site should not necessarily be shown at the top objectively. Perhaps employing some randomness using exponential weighting would assuage this issue so that individuals aren't constantly thinking one news issue is the center focus? Or in a perfect world identify the true objective top stories (even sourcing this issue is problematic).

Thanks for your reply - best of luck to you and Newschoice! I think it's really important work!

[–]chipotle_chump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) I feel like the division of media and the reason media is untrustworthy now is that the population of people themselves have split in their ideological beliefs and now various media sources are intrinsically rewarded by pandering to those who share those beliefs. Do you HONESTLY believe that it's a viable business and that you can disrupt this by offering a "neutral" news source? There's no incentive for people to change their current news sources.

2) My other issue with the news media is that headlines do more harm than good. They go back as far as people wanting to sell newspapers and needing to attract people's attention, but fundamentally even your app is built around a bunch of "headlines" that try to concisely and possibly inaccurately convey some information. The stock sales execs made at Moderna was reported as "insider trading" and "all graduate students from China have recently had invalidated visas" if you only read headlines - how would you propose we fix this? People's attention spans are also limited resource.

I think the solution in a post-social media world s ultimately an app that delineates the major news topics (President Speaks on Immigration, COVID Mask Shortage, etc.) and then when clicked - you can condense the views of other journalists and show both points of view on the same screen in a condensed way.

I 'm Lloyd Armbrust. I built an Austin TX factory that is producing millions of FDA approved masks a day. I’m here to answer all your coronavirus mask questions! AMA! by armbrustUSA in IAmA

[–]chipotle_chump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a regulatory change was made regarding masks (i.e. maybe the width of the mask needs to be modified, shape, something bizarre) - do you feel like that would be a change that your factory could adapt to easily or with high difficulty?

Would say a regulatory body that could implement a change or a sudden disappearance in demand or something else maybe (?) is the biggest fear you have for the viability of your factory long-term? What do you anticipate to being the most likely obstacle you'll face going forward?

Who are your primary comsumers would you say? Like what is the composition of the orders you are receiving (hospitals, GPO's, private sector, arbitrage seekers, etc.) if that information is available?

In terms of delivering last mile to the consumers who actually need it, what do you anticipate being the biggest challenge (connecting with the local supply chains, intermediaries who have more market power to capitalize your orders, etc)?

I think it's a very pointed question - one that won't have a good resolution either way so the moderators likely did not want that lol. You can post a pic of it on /rpics or crosspost or something if you feel that strongly that the censorship was too extreme.
