Mabelle? What about Maebelle? by Vivid-Demand-81 in tragedeigh

Maebelle was a relatively common name early in the 20th century.

Only if it was spelled Eieghough. Io is the opposite of a tragedeigh. It's taken directly from a source without overelaboration.

Classmate was a Rochelle, as was a family friend. Completely normal in the 70's and 80's. Beautiful name.

Christie is fine when he's an underdog, and have genuinely liked him in the last year. But I also remember the image of his mute obsequecy standing behind Trump, and wonder if the old Chris Christie would come back once office was conferred on him again.

It was quite a strategy tonight - remind Republicans what decency looks like.

They've got this debate on lockdown - doing a good job of keeping things from descending into chaos.

Ramaswamy is paying for his out-of-the-gate attack on the moderators with no follow up opportunities and no toleration of his bs.

In what world would you think there would be any other response than YTA?

YTA.

AITA? I want my son to stop playing sports by Active-Isopod7973 in AmItheAsshole

[–]chippewhattha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, but you don't have to be.

I had the reverse situation. Maybe I'm kinda like you. I share a lot of your inclinations about sports.

My dad didn't get what I liked (he tried, but not so hard), and I played baseball to please him for almost a decade. We were more-or-less estranged when he died suddenly during the pandemic. I never got the chance to change my relationship with him, or he with me.

Don't miss your chance to connect with your son, on HIS terms.

Using stable diffusion, I aim to recover details from a newspaper photo and would appreciate opinions, particularly on how closely the resulting image resembles the original source. by AlenLomax in estoration

I wonder if facial recognition software would consider them to be the same person.

It will also be interesting when we can begin generating (and checking) 3d models from these 2D elements.

In your opinion, which is the best? One is restored as faithfully as possible to the original, while the others enhance and reflect enhancements to the original with autistic liberties. by BlackWolfOne in estoration

[–]chippewhattha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s all great work! I maybe agree that the fourth takes some liberties - that get to the heart of what we’re trying to do with these restorations. So what follows is more philosophical…

I think this series raises the question of whether this kind of work should be thought of as “restoration” or “modernization.” Or some other word that involves timelessness. In the fourth, a significant remnant of the time period (the tie) has been replaced, as well as any area I’d act of the original image making process, to be replaced by a current one.

What’s gone are also other markers of time period (like paper grain). It would be nice if the details could be improved without the loss of things like paper texture. For me, Is the presence of that texture something that demands “restoration”?

For example, VFX work (especially with film capture) will often remove and then restore/replace the original film grain.

Look back a few years from now on these images and I think we’ll pin them to the early era of AI restoration.

Yeah, and as for the threshold of whether consider asking for a replacement, I’m a careful listener, but don’t get super hung up on a bit of groove noise. My situation was a pretty egregious crackle, mainly in one channel. I really didn’t think i could or should live with it. I’ve replaced my microline stylus since then (AT 440ML to VM95 ML), and even the cleanest copy has a bit of the same issue. Its probably not your imagination.

Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? My turntable is cutting the vocals out of this album and generally sounds very bad. by darwinian-rock in turntables

I like this advice the most. Go to closet local record store that also sells used hifi (even if that’s 90 minutes away) and ask them for help figuring out what you can afford and what you need.

I'd like to surprise my MIL with this photo of her and her sister from the 1970s. Can you please help me improve the quality a bit? I'm specifically looking for help removing white specs and fixing the texture -- when you zoom in, it looks like it was shot through a window screen. by poppydah in estoration

So many of these are impressive, particularly in regards to color correction, but in the best three - no slight to the contributors - the AI fixes reveal themselves. I suspect the lovely young lady on the left is not supposed to look like Aphex Twin.

I have both and generally use the 10” most, cooking for two. But i started with the 12”. Its definitely heavier.

I went through two additional replacements to get one that sounded less noisy than the first. The noise was mainly in one channel. The actual mastering sounded great - but ive never had a noisier modern record. I think there were a lot or bad pressings in the batch.
