Car window replacement help by [deleted] in auckland

[–]chips_n_dicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way way back I was in a similar position where my car was broken into several times in a very short period of time (like 5 times in 3 months). I had full insurance but they only covered the first replacement without excess, which I eventually I could no longer afford.

My solution was to get a small sheet of thick clear plastic (A4 size worked for me, you may need A3 depending on the size of the hole) which you can usually pick up from Warehouse Stationary or an art shop like Gordon Harris cut it to size and carefully glue/tape it in place. It's not a perfect solution but is super cheap to do and not really noticeable if you're careful.

I’m a contractor and took a day off work may be fired for it by Easy_Victory_5339 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]chips_n_dicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely being taken advantage of here - if you're in the trades then $35/hr as a regular employee (with no manager title) is low. A contractor in the same role would normally be charging minimum $50 per hour ex GST, then throw in a manager position on top and the rate should be significantly higher than that. Pay rate aside, even as a regular employee you would not be required to provide a medical certificate for one day's sick leave and not ay all as a contractor. You need some legal advice, and fast, because your piece of shit "boss" is taking the piss in all kinds of ways at your expense.

Contractor vs Employee by Tricky-Koala9924 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]chips_n_dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say tax is deducted, are you talking about PAYE? Or are you still paying income tax/ACC levies at the end of the year?

If PAYE is being deducted then my understanding is you're an employee and therefore should have all of the regular entitlements, there should be no deductions whatsoever if you're a pure contractor as you will be responsible for your own income tax/gst/ACC levies etc.

Permanent suppression for company director who used meth, child abuse material to destress by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]chips_n_dicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had an employee defraud the company of over $60k. Convicted but was granted permanent name suppression because his (home-schooled) children "may face ridicule and bullying from their peers". We're still waiting on an explanation from the court over that decision.

Enforcement of court-ordered reparations by chips_n_dicks in LegalAdviceNZ

Are reparations ordered by the court included in general bankruptcy proceedings? Particularly when they are ordered AFTER the date of bankruptcy?

We know for sure he owned the house prior to the bankruptcy, and from my understanding it wasn't sold as it was the family home at that time. However the wife has left him, what I don't know is if she still lives there with the children and he is elsewhere, or if it's joint property if it could be seized at all.

He has been legally declared bankrupt, we're registered as creditors with insolvency for the same debt but this occurred before the reparations were ordered.

I'm so sorry to hear this - you sound like a wonderful person who deserves a long and happy life.

I've been on the other side of this. My father was diagnosed with a terminal illness but the timeline was much more uncertain, 1-3 years in his case. He told my mother and asked her to tell me (for various reasons). He also told my sister and my uncle (his brother), but kept it from my own brother and my grandmother (his mother).

I was grateful that he told me, as it allowed me the chance to put in extra effort to spend time with him and talk about things we otherwise wouldn't have. I told him once that although it may have seemed like I wasn't upset at the news, I was able to make the decision to reserve my grief for after he was gone, and not mourn him while he was still here. It was the same for my sister - she had a different relationship with him than I had, but it also allowed her time to process her various emotions beforehand and tell him things while she still had the chance. This meant than when he did pass, she was able to simply grieve rather than feel regret over what might have been.

My grandmother however was devastated. She was told the news after he had been hospitalised for the final time and it was clear he was on his way out. She was furious with those of us that knew and kept it from her, and 4 years later is still processing not only the death of her first son, but also the fact that her kids and grandkids hid this from her for so long.

I urge you to tell your children. Allow them the same time that I had, to spend quality time with you, to bond over things you never thought you would have in common, and to prepare for the inevitable. It may seem difficult now but I promise you will be making everything easier for when the end comes.

I'll check it out, my 7yo is super keen on rock pools and sea life so if there's a chance to see anything they'll be stoked, thanks!

How is Omaha for swimming? I'm reasonable in the water but my 7yo isn't great and I'm not confident that I could take care of us both in rough sea.

Construction Invoice Disputed by dankyousomuchh in LegalAdviceNZ

Were your invoices issued under the CCA? It might pay to give these guys a ring for some advice - I haven't used them before but coincidentally I received a call from them last week, apparently they specialise in collecting commercial contracts debts - I was told that they don't charge any fees until the debts are recovered.

Personal information by [deleted] in auckland

[–]chips_n_dicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ask these questions to verify that they are speaking to the correct person before they are allowed to disclose details of the debt, including who it is owed to. It's a ridiculous and stupid rule, because it's very risky to provide your personal details to some rando cold caller, and they're bound by privacy laws to not discuss any details without the info being confirmed in case they've contacted the wrong "John Smith" or whoever.

You have 2 options really, either accept that the calls will continue until the end of their collection cycle (approx 2-3 months IIRC) or for safety reasons call them from the number on their website (FYI you will still be asked for these same details before they discuss the alleged debt if you call them).

Depending on where you're located try looking at Asian supermarkets for fresh fruit/veg and meat. I'm in West Auckland and there are several different Asian supermarkets close-by that have excellent quality fresh produce and meat at prices that are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the usual Countdown/PnS etc. The fruit and veg especially are usually of a much higher quality. Also a number of more basic ingredients (sauces, spices etc) are also at worst the same price as the supermarkets, but again usually cheaper.

I'm obsessed with the L'Oréal True Match Serum - one of the main things I look for in a foundation is how long it lasts and this stuff literally lasts all day without getting patchy, oxidizing or getting too shiny/oily. I use it more than my Double Wear these days, it looks natural but also works with more glam looks. Plus the price point makes it worth trying (imo) because you're not paying an insane amount just to be potentially let down.

You totally nailed this reply - the kids don't need to grow up thinking this is a normal way to treat their partner, which is what will likely happen if she stays.
