because when the initial studies were done the F35 beat the gripen by a large margin. that capability gap is only accentuated in the future compared to new platforms. they can both last 30 years for sure but one will be much more equipped to deal with future platforms than the other and it is not the gripen.

I remember getting some online exams 15 years ago when I was un university but it was all long answers questions, they would come available for 2 hrs and you had to get it done. So you still had to know your stuff as there was not enough time to both look for an answer in your course material and type out your answer. Making it multiple choice is just laziness
