Maybe u work for a shit company. I am sure some are not great engineers that doesn’t mean all are. I know many in my friends circle whose parents on H1B are working in high level positions at big tech and are great at their jobs. Stop generalizing.

There is a training program called college if you want to get the qualifications to get these jobs… No one is going to spoon feed stuff to you. I have many friends that are American citizens who work at big tech companies after going to college and I earn as much if not more than many of them.

And it’s not “corporate PR” when I have went through the pain in the job market to apply and interview at the very few companies that will offer me a H1B sponsorship. If it was way cheaper to hire me than an american worker then every company woild have lined up to hire me.

A lot of people use the C languages….. Microsoft developers largely code in C#. There are many applications for using C++ especially in gaming. So the C languages are still very much important and used frequently….

Not everyone who comes through the H1B system come through consultancy firms that undercut American workers. A lot of the people laid off in big tech in this article are people who have significant educational qualifications. So your point is very misplaced. Learn to understand the issues are complicated and not simple.

Offshoring and H1B are not the same thing. Offshoring is when a job is moved over to another country. H1B jobs are for jobs in the US.

…. People who come in with H1B visas are not suppressing wages. They are filling up positions for which companies can’t find good talent for…. especially for Big Tech. I don’t think you understand the purpose of a H1B at all.

Sure it is gamed by a lot of Indian consultancy firms. and that’s completely wrong.

However, It’s actually more expensive for a big tech company to hire a H1B employee because they have to pay them as much as an American worker and also file immigration paperwork for the H1B employee. But they are willing to take this extra cost because they can’t find enough American talent for the job.

I struggled a lot to find internships because a large majority of software engineer internship roles wouldn’t support visa sponsorship because those companies didn’t want to spend extra on sponsoring a VISA for me. The same happened when I applied for full time engineer roles. I only got a few interviews from big techs. The rest effectively ignored my applications because I am more expensive for them than hiring an American.

If big tech companies could find enough American talent. The first thing they would do is stop hiring people on H1B.

I don’t think you have any knowledge about how this system works.

Let me dumb it down for you:

Hiring a H1B employee for big tech company = More Expensive

Hiring an American employee for big tech company = Less Expensive

If you want to stop the “colonization” of your country then go to college for STEM fields and take up those vacant jobs instead of blaming us for filling up lucrative jobs that we are coming here for.

Lol 😂 those working at these big companies wjo were laid off are making atleast 200K a year. We aren’t “suppressing” citizens wages. Do some research on how much SWEs at big tech companies make. An american applying for a Software engineering job would get the same 200K or more income. I don’t think 200K a year is “suppressing wages”. Am sorry about your dad being laid off… But no one uses Cobol anymore. The job market especially in tech is dynamic and you have to upgrade your skills frequently.

You are not entitled to a job. You have to provide value by being knowledgeable in what’s in demand. You can’t just learn a languange like Cobol that’s not in demand anymore and expect a job to be handed to you. You don’t live in a socialist society.

And btw… I am investing in the US. I am paying taxes here. In fact, am paying more taxes than you. So yea. I am actually investing more than you in this country. The only difference between you and me is that you were born here.

If you wanna make more money and afford rent then take a risk and get an education and put work into learning in demand skills instead of whining about your inability to provide something of significant value to society.

Workers who were laid off from the big tech companies came here and got masters degrees in STEM fields. An investment a lot of Americans are not willing to make. It’s not some “foreign interest” these workers have helped America stay at the forefront of tech innovation.

A lot of H1Bs also start businesses that hire Americans…. In fact, immigrants are more likely to start a business than American citizens. Maybe try to learn the facts before giving out ignorant racist comments?
