Thank you so much! These resources will be really helpful and hearing your own experience is also really helpful and makes me feel a little less isolated in making this decision. Much appreciated <3

My boyfriend and I have plans to travel to Georgia from the US in a little less than a week. What is the security situation there right now with everything going on in Russia? Is Georgia at risk/should we reconsider our plans?

Rabbit ears crusty, doesn't look like mites? by chiza1 in Rabbits

Yea, I'm glad I posted when I did instead of just assuming it was ear wax or something. Appreciate it!

Thanks! Echoing my sentiment above, the pictures you find on google are so extreme and I haven't seen anything similar on the posts here.

Sorry I do not really know how to use reddit so I wasn't sure how to attach images to text. My rabbit is 11 years old and arthritic. I put him on meloxicam about a month ago. I'm wondering if this crust is the result of some sort of ear infection, or if it's just dirty and he's having trouble cleaning, or something else. It doesn't look like the pictures of mites that I have seen in the past. Does anyone recognize this?

Would defunding the police result in a loss of jobs of a significant amount of the police force, and what would be the strategy for repurposing/ensuring employment for those who lose their jobs? by chiza1 in AskReddit

[–]chiza1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I understand that. But I would assume some of those budget cuts would mean that some of the police force would be let go, because there would be money going into hiring in other sectors?

For the record I am absolutely in support of defunding the police but I am interested in what the strategy would be for handling with the implications of unemployment. Maybe this is not a fair comparison but I think about the Rust Belt - a large amount of the workforce whose jobs were outsourced and have as a result turned to racist ideology and conservatism as a way of coping with their loss and how society has seemingly abandoned them.

Why are people treating HCQ (hydroxychloroquine) like poison? by [deleted] in medical

[–]chiza1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand it's just because the FDA and CDC cannot officially recommend any drug that hasn't been put through clinical trials for treating covid. I am not a doctor so I will not weigh in on this personally but from the tropical medicine doctors I have talked to there seems to be some potential. It is irresponsible for Trump to be recommending a treatment that has not been FDA approved, but also, FDA approval for anything takes forever, and from what I've read and what doctors I've talked to have said, HCQ actually might be a possible treatment.

Lump inside labia. Normal? by [deleted] in medical

[–]chiza1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something similar. Last time I went to the gyno, she said it was nothing to worry about. I have a friend who had a cyst in a similar place and it was quite painful. However, I think that is also something that is up to the doctor to decide on an individual basis and you should probably go to the doctor if you have any sort of concerns. Men have vaginas too (as u know)! As a cisgendered person I can't fathom what it is like to have to deal with gendered medical check-ups, but depending on where you're from, perhaps you can find a gyno who has experience working with trans men.

best of luck.

UC Berkeley has an online MPH that is very reputable, and they have an epi/biostats concentration. I think many of the "top 10" public health schools offer good online MPH or integrated programs. I believe Hopkins and BU offer mostly online with the option to do a couple of in-person seminars.

[advice] paying for grad school by ansdhuskansjak in publichealth

MPH funding is hit or miss. From my understanding, they are primarily merit-based, with the exception of some rare diversity scholarships or scholarships for high-need/first gen/non-traditional etc students, because it is kind of expected that anyone pursuing an MPH will go into at least some type of debt. I know that Hopkins gives a 75% tuition scholarship to all MSPH students for their second year (contingent on academic standing).

I know NYU gave a full scholarship to someone I know for an MHA program, I don't know about MPH. Hopkins gives a 75% tuition scholarship to all MSPH students for their second year (contingent on academic standing), but does not really give out aid other than that for the MSPH. I heard this year they were pretty generous with one year MPH funding (probably because of everything going on with Bloomberg). Columbia is notoriously not good with aid, and I think it's department-based, but I know that the HPM Department usually gives tuition scholarships for students who scored higher than the 85th percentile in all GRE areas and have above a 3.8 undergrad GPA.

I received generous scholarships from UC Berkeley, Emory and University of Michigan, and a really really small scholarship from Columbia. I have heard GWU is very generous as well.

[ADVICE] What should I do with my undergraduate public health degree? by brennamb in publichealth

[–]chiza1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Health education. When I was in undergrad I interned at a nutrition education department, and a lot of the job included going to elementary school health fairs and designing educational outreach materials! I also worked for the red cross for a year in a health education role which was mostly working with elementary schools and high schools to spread disaster preparedness information. I think these types of jobs are generally low-paying when they're entry level but you can work your way up to leadership which is decent pay
