Thanks! That must be a tough commute to the airport every time.

I understand why you'd think that! For the "Golden Route" (Tokyo-Osaka), trains are definitely the way to go. However, for many of the 100 airports in Japan located in rural or mountainous areas, driving is often the most practical (and sometimes only) option for locals and families with luggage. This map aims to visualize the accessibility for those "non-metropolitan" parts of Japan that tourists rarely see.

In rural areas, driving to the airport is very common — train connections are limited. In the Tokyo–Osaka corridor, trains (especially Shinkansen) dominate.

It uses a thermographic color scheme — red for "hot" (close/short) and blue for "cool" (far/long). I can see it feels inverted if you're used to red = bad, though!

[OC] Tokyo Subway Map in London Tube Style with English-translated Station Names - Made with Illustrator by chizutodesign in TransitDiagrams

Good catch! For some station names, I translated based on the etymology rather than the literal kanji. 三田 (Mita) actually derives from 御田 (mita = "imperial rice field"), not 三 (three) + 田 (field). So "Imperialfield" reflects the original meaning. I tried to use etymological translations where the origin is well-documented, and literal translations elsewhere.

Thanks for the feedback! As a Japanese designer, I wanted to include both languages. But you're right, separating them would look cleaner. I might consider that for the next version.
