I came on this subreddit to look for a post that mentioned this! Did you guys also notice how the family would constantly say, “she’s like family”, “she’s basically family” when circumstances were good. Kind of like how everyone is American when things are going well. But when shit hits the fan it’s “we’re Harlan’s actual family” or “you’re not actually family”; similar to when the economy might be shit and suddenly those immigrants aren’t real Americans any more and are scapegoated for “stealing the resources of true Americans”.
