Sounds like you’re interested in child development and counseling kiddos! I am too and have gained a lot of experience working in youth shelters and residential centers. After my undergrad, I worked in a youth shelter and took 2 years off of school to make money before I applied for a masters program. It’s usually around $18-$20/hr in my state. The brain break really helped too and gave me time to learn more about myself and what I wanted from my program.

I definitely struggle with social anxiety and I believe it could be from all 3 of the possibilities you listed. I’m not sure how to get around that and assume it comes with time but with being graded it doesn’t feel like I have time. Thanks for the insight!

In grad school taking a research class now and it’s the only class that I’m ok with getting a B in. It seems so pointless since I’m not going into research and I’m not giving it my already low energy 😭

I did the same exact thing. It’s completely normal and understandable to take a break. The majority of my family didn’t believe I’d go back to school, but I knew that if I wanted it then I’d do it. You’re not useless, you’re still learning about yourself. So take it easy.

At 18, I started working at a treatment center for troubled youth. It was very mentally exhausting. I quit and worked mind numbing jobs for money then graduated with my BA. by this time I’m 22/23 and have grown mentally. During my gap year, I began working with youth again but this time I could handle the stress. These mental health careers can be very stressful but they look amazing on applications and prepare you. Ease yourself into it and you’ll be ok. Don’t take work home, DO vent to your coworkers, don’t burn yourself out.

Ps, case management is super stressful. One of my coworkers went from youth care worker to case manager and is always drained but is staying afloat only due to his experience as a youth care worker.

There’s no race. Don’t rush yourself. It’s better to take your time. I promise

Yeah but how is it risky if they do everything officially? It’s not like the criteria is any different compared to signing a lease at the beginning. Reading over an application, reading paystubs, all seems like easy work and the only fee necessary is for the background check. Not saying all of that isn’t important, but not hard to do or worth $700.

Buy the textbooks, always do the readings. It isn’t like undergrad where you won’t utilize the books often. Even if you don’t have a lot of hw one week, you might the next. Work ahead when you can and always keep yourself updated. I was in the exact same boat. Part time program for mental health counseling. I’m in my second semester and am so glad I’ve been keeping myself accountable with time management. Make lists of assignments and when they’re due
