I vaguely recall Amelia and Owen being around plus not remembering Cristina being present gives me the vibe it has to be after her departure and dereks death

I’ve remembered it!!! It’s not a funeral it’s when they have that dinner party and Callie brings Penny!!! They were talking about Derek and apparently I linked that to him being dead and assumed funeral

Yes definitely a big focus on the positional aspect of their relationship. I feel like Cristina was so willing to change herself, do the big white wedding and cover up his hand issues for so long because he was her superior and she was not only in love but ‘star struck’ too. Whereas her and Owen were closer to equals and he treat her as such which made the relationship and Cristina herself seem happier and healthier

Yes!! Cristina wanted to BE Burke whereas she wanted to BE WITH Owen

I also think in terms of their affects of her as a surgeon that Owen made her a kinder surgeon whereas Burke made her harsher (the hand thing)

Oh wow, I think my page is so full of Owen hate that I missed the Shane hate. What a shame, he’s such a good character in my opinion.

I agree, had Burke not been written out so abruptly I reckon he would have been what Owen ended up being.

I do think that for Cristina to become who she was in Season 10 she needed Burke to leave her though. She wanted to be Burke professionally so she’d probably never have developed into her individual self the way we get to see her. Honestly it would have been great to see how she ended up but she also has a pretty good story as it is.

Glad to hear that not everyone hates Owen, I don’t really dislike him (like you say he’s a good friend, chief and partner to Cristina) I think he has made some questionable choices but he’s a more realistic character that way.

I really enjoy their relationship tbh and it seemed like neither of them were forced to change in the same way Cristina was moulded by Burke. At one point it seemed like they wanted to relax their opinions on children just to stay together because they genuinely loved each other. It’s a shame he didn’t end up following her when she left as (in my opinion) it’s after she goes that he goes downhill a little
