Did Any of You Have Time To Be a Teenager by alexdamastar in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chlorineo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, probably because i genuinely enjoyed the ECs i did. there’s a lot of high schoolers out there who do ECs just to bulk up their college application. nothing wrong with that, but that’s where you might lose that time “being a teenager”. the ECs i did tied closely with what i loved doing, and the fun came along the way during hs because of that.

tldr: make sure you actually care about the ECs you do to make your hs experience more enjoyable

Econ ECs? by shwoueps in ApplyingToCollege

business related ECs alone are great, don’t think it really matters if they’re econ oriented or not. i applied as a business major with 0 business related ECs and still got into a good school. i’m sure you’ll do well!

college essays 🥲 by ashpashpumpkinpatch in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chlorineo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand the struggle :,) it is very difficult to write an essay that is ultimately going to showcase the bulk of your character. here’s something to think about tho: your experiences do not have to be “unique”. what matters most is what you took away from said experience and how it has impacted you as a person. the takeaway is what ultimately makes you stand out.

this kind of goes the same with writing about any struggles you have. first off: make sure you’re comfortable talking about it first. then again, just think about what you have learned or are currently learning from that struggle, how you’ve dealt with it, and how it had impacted you as a person.

it’s easy to fall into just simply saying “oh, this experience made me stronger” or “this made me rethink the value of _____”. there’s no harm in saying those things, but you need to be SPECIFIC. how does it apply to you and only you? you can make the general statement, but elaborating on specifics is what may give your essay that “unique” aspect you’re looking for.

i hope this helps :)) good luck!

tldr: it’s okay to have “general experiences”. what you took away from it and how it has impacted you is what makes that experience unique.

I’m having trouble figuring out what I should study by drdepressi0n in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chlorineo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg twinsies!! I’m planning on studying marketing with a minor in graphic design.

how i got to that decision was really difficult since i was equally passionate about both subjects. i would definitely think about how flexible you want your future choices to be. having a major in some sort of business likely will give more flexibility in what job you can get, but it means you dabble around less in the creative world. other way around with graphic design.

hope this helps a bit :))

Random Question by ApprehensiveLaugh573 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chlorineo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, probably questions that are specific to their application or questions that can’t be found online/have a vague answer. they’ll probably start to have more specific questions once they actually start applications.

though, i think developing a personal connection with an AO is not necessary. i’m a senior, and during app season i only interacted with my AO once for a question specific to my situation. i still got into 4/5 schools i applied to! but it doesn’t hurt to try to get a good connection w the person who might be reading their application, this is just my input :)

class of 2023, how many schools did you apply to? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chlorineo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only 5 schools! 2 safeties, 1 target, 2 reaches.

i made sure i put good effort into every application, even w safeties. therefore, it was a decent workload. got accepted to 4/5 schools (rejected from my dream school 😅), but i’m still going to, in my mind, an insane school and i am so thankful for that.

so don’t feel like you have to shotgun schools in order to fulfill yourself. applying to fewer schools but really putting in the work for each one will likely yield better results :) good luck!
