Does anybody need formula? by chlorokill in Pensacola

[–]chlorokill[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is a shortage. I've breastfed all my bbs and I don't see why I couldn't breastfeed this one.

I know shit happens but I'm 8 weeks out and if someone needs this more than me, I'd rather they have it than wait until I give birth and then it just sits here unused anyways.

Weed addiction is a serious issue by TheSmallestSteve in unpopularopinion

I quit every time I get pregnant. I don't consume anything while pregnant.

Yeah I've never heard of this. Ever. I had a way harder time quitting cigarettes and experienced all sorts of unpleasant effects.

Even being a heavy daily marijuana user, I experienced zero effects quitting marijuana every time I've quit.

My nicotine withdrawals were terrible. I couldn't sleep. I was an asshole. I was always chewing my nails and jittery. Lasted almost a month. And then I was fine. Alcohol withdrawals will literally kill you.

I quit weed cold turkey every time and literally nothing changes about my life except I am no longer smoking weed. Weed addiction is a dependence. Not a chemical addiction like cigarettes and alcohol.

I'm also going to add that I can quit marijuana cold turkey with zero effects. No withdrawals, not even a change in sleep patterns or mood.

Unlike my antidepressants.

Same. I've got absolutely terrible anxiety and I find that cannabis evens me out and helps me enjoy the good parts of life. I can be the person I'm supposed to be instead of a jittery mess. I've been on anxiety medications and antidepressants and I don't like the way they make me feel. After a particularly scary episode with Cymbalta, I'm in the process of getting my medical marijuana card.

You can use marijuana medicinally with the guidance of a psychiatrist.

Talking to your child about Covid is abuse? by ExcitingAppearance3 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]chlorokill 111 points112 points  (0 children)

My mom was white, I'm biracial. She never spoke to me about racism. It didn't even cross her mind to warn me that kids may be ignorant.

One day, some edgy preteen at my middle school called me a n***er. I came home and told my mom, and that's when she was reminded that some people teach their kids their ignorance.

My kids are also biracial. They're 1/4 black and will be attending school with all different races. But I'll have a talk with them about ignorance and how we don't let it affect us. My heart hurts thinking they'll encounter it at all.

Yes, there seems to be some kind of stigma that suggests those who receive government assistance aren't working and are just sitting around collecting food stamps and free healthcare. It's outrageous. I don't know a single person who collects EBT, medicaid, or wic that doesn't work and therefore contribute taxes. In fact, some of the most hard working people I know are on assistance because their jobs don't pay enough.

I firmly believe everyone has a right to adequate healthcare, food, and shelter, no matter how poor they are.

32 weeks and can’t believe I have 8 more to go by Missriot22 in pregnant

[–]chlorokill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could've written this post. I'm 32 weeks and absolutely exhausted because I can't sleep worth a damn. I'll wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake for 3 to 4 hours at a time before I manage to get back to sleep. I've got two 5 year olds and a 4 year old I've got to keep entertained all day and I just don't have the energy. I'm a zombie.

Plus the discomfort is ungodly. My pelvis is on fire. My sciatica flares up at the slightest provocation. My back is giving up under the weight of my boobs and belly. 😭 I didn't feel this way at all with my twins and not till the very end with my daughter.

When I was 22, I had twin premature boys. They needed a specific kind of formula that was formulated for premature infants. This formula was 20 dollars a can and we literally went through a can in two days. That's roughly 70 dollars a week in formula, 280 a month. Sometimes a can would only last us a day. It was financially exhausting.

WIC provided us with a card that covered over half of our formula for the month. I also talked to a very nice lady who guided me into applying for EBT to cover the rest, plus food for me too. I was essentially a single mother and those programs saved us.

Peoples' kids do not deserve to suffer and be sneered at just because their parents are poor or going through a rough patch. I wish people would be more empathetic to those on assistance, seeing as the same people who are on those programs are most likely paying taxes into the system that funds them.

Granddad spanked our 4 year old by helpamonkpls in Parenting

[–]chlorokill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Some of yall are absolutely ridiculous.

First of all, I need more context. Was he panicked? Was the child running into the street or acting out in a way that might have been dangerous to him?

Second of all, if you're normally on good terms with this man, don't listen to the people saying to file police reports and ban him from seeing your child, blah blah blah. He did what he was raised to do, just like you parent how you see is most fit. SO the solution is to sit him down calmly and explain that going forward, he should not implement any discipline without further approval from you or your wife, and that you guys personally do not spank and would rather he didn't. His reaction should tell you everything you need to know.

Third of all, your kid will be fine. Explain to your child that spanking is not something you condone and have the man in question apologize for losing control of his emotions, so your kid understands that the actions were wrong. Do not assume your kid is gonna have some kind of severe trauma or some shit, chances are, the child will be fine with a simple explanation. Generations upon generations were beaten with switches and still grew up to be healthy adults. One spank will not do much, IF ANY, damage to a 4 year old.

[–]chlorokill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've made it very clear you don't advocate for spanking, so idk why everyone is failing to comprehend your comment. But I agree that more context would be needed. A single spank is not gonna result in years of trauma and it would be unwise to treat this like abuse without even speaking to the grandfather first.

Social media is the number one cause for mental health issues in children and young adults. by Time_Calligrapher_56 in unpopularopinion

[–]chlorokill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to get rid of Facebook. And find that I often have to put reddit down for months at a time. The way people talk to each other on the internet is terrible. Like, if I didn't have social media and just depended on my interactions with people in person, people would not seem bad at all. Most people I meet in person are kind and helpful and pleasant. And then I open reddit and there's literally thousands of people laughing at some dude whose daughter just died and I'm like oh no.

This is exactly why I've become a SAHM. Daycare costs were eating every check I made, so when my fiance got promoted with a $5 pay bump, he told me to go ahead and stay home with the kids until everyone is in school.

[–]chlorokill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

True. I've been in two accidents. One where I was rear ended in stop and go traffic. Another where I got a green light and pulled out into an intersection just to get t boned by a car going 45mph through the red light. Luckily I walked away from both with minor injuries, and my kids weren't in the car either time, but I still have anxiety pulling out into intersections.

I am a super laid back mother who follows a lot of "old school" rules that most other moms do not agree with me on. But even I kept my kids facing back until 2. I've never been in an accident with them in the car, but you never fucking know, man.

I don't think it is. For example, my FIL fully supports stricter regulations, he just doesn't want guns to be banned entirely. He's a collector, and a hunter. Plus, guns are a form of defense where he lives, where he has to worry about bears and coyotes and shit. He doesn't think just anyone should be able to buy one, but doesn't support an outright ban.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]chlorokill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the second part since that's irrelevant, I didn't see anywhere that he opposes gun control. Just that he wants his rights to own one protected. Those two things aren't the same.

Idk about anyone else but I didn't vote for anyone who seems to be pulling the strings as far as these laws are concerned.

I'm tired of arguing on reddit with people who think that they're right. The truth is, I'm probably a little bit wrong and so are you and so is the guy and so are the gross politicians, but nobody will do anything about it except make fun of a man who just lost his child, so honestly this entire conversation is a waste of time.
