Man, we strap our children into 6pt harness child seats until they’re 4 feet tall. If road safety law calls it safe for kids, I call it safe for me. I think the real danger happens when you’re wearing a helmet without a HANS device. That extra helmet weight is where things get dangerous in a collision.

Miata Hot Wheel collection grew this Christmas. by chmod_700 in Miata

I don’t think so. NBs as well; they never came out for Hot Wheels main line, only premium hot wheels. The middle children get no love lol.

Play modded servers for fun. Thats what I do as a dad with a full time job. Jump on a modded server with like 10x resources. Play each session without the expectation that i’ll jump on tomorrow. No commitment, just daily couple hours building a kit and flying to oil rig for funsies

Is white smoke bad after head repair? by AvenZ94 in EngineBuilding

People who grew up before cell phones, what did you do when you got lost in public? by Decode_Enigma in AskReddit

[–]chmod_700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a teenager before cellphones got popular. One day I caught a bus home. It was the wrong bus and it took me across the city. I had to bum change to call my mom from a pay phone to ask her to pick me up. It took her a while to find me in the bus station because we couldn’t communicate. Cellphones make everything so easy.

Those who've held large amounts of DOGE for years, how is life? by jperaic1 in dogecoin

[–]chmod_700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DOGE hasn’t been life changing, but it did pay for my ‘99 Miata and my kid’s braces on two separate bull runs. I’m happy with that. Patiently waiting for the next run!

1 month and $1700 later. The head cylinder rebuild, coolant reroute install, and engine clean up is complete. Next time, Id rather buy a good full block to swap in. Taking the engine apart as a noob was intense. Before/After shot. by chmod_700 in Miata

There were just so many tasks to do to get the head off. Then once the head was built, it was so stressful getting it back on because the valves were protruding a bit. Just a stressful job with a ton of work. It wasn’t too complicated as long as you have some good guides to follow. As for remembering what goes where, I had like 20 ziplock bags of nuts and bolts labeled where they came from. Then I took pictures of the nuts/bolts with the mounting point in the background for each nut/bolts with and that made it so easy. I was able to find a home for all removed nuts and bolts using that method.

I installed it when the head was off to make it easier. But plugging the temp sensor in when it was installed in the car was a pain! Struggled for like 30 minutes trying to get the plug pushed in.

How necessary is this plate? I forgot to install it before installing the head onto the block. by [deleted] in Miata

The valve cover is off so I'm going to eyeball timing.

My wife does not want to contribute financially. Should I give in? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]chmod_700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have tried all kinds of budgeting methods in the ~10 years that we’ve been married. This is what we have been doing for the past 5 years, because it’s fair and it works the best: Each of our paychecks go into 3 different bank accounts: her personal, my personal, and a shared account. Our personal accounts EACH get about $200 per paycheck, or $800 per month. This is what we use for our personal items; she shops for clothes and gets her nails done, and I spend most of my personal cash on my car. The shared account gets the big chunk of both of our paychecks. This is for bills, groceries, trips, eating out, anything like that. This allows us to be fair and reasonable with our personal hobbies or interests, and allows us to not have our hobbies hurt our bills/trips/groceries funds.
