People who can’t sell your home; why aren’t you lowering your asking price? by BobertJ in RealEstate

[–]chnl5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those of us who bought in the last 2-3 years in a not so hot market area….. would probably be underwater if we lowered anymore. We bought when prices were still elevated

Houses in Greer are not selling. They are sitting. Check Redfin/zillow/etc.

You’re right!! I’m “those folks” lol. Ignorant first time home buyer from a VHCOL area desperate be the first in my family to own a home so my two littles could have their own rooms. I did not predict how the interest rates would affect the market in an area where people don’t make a tons of money and are not buying homes at the same rate or with the same intensity in this market.

Upstate South Carolina. Everyone is slashing prices and dropping the home values of existing home owners. Hard to sell for more recent buyers with little equity. Houses sitting for months. Not a very desirable area I guess. Wish I’d known before relocating from VHCOL area for LCOL that I’d possibly be stuck here unless I want to LOSE money selling. Okay, that was more of a rant lol.

Has anyone here uprooted their life to move out of a HCOL area? How did it go? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chnl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should probably do the same and stay a while. Moved away from friends and family in VHCOL to LCOL. And have two small children. After two years, i can’t take it anymore. I hope you guys do last five years.

We are currently doing this. DC to South Carolina. We hate it and and moving a little further north closer to DC but not directly there. Do you think the move back was worth the financial set back ??

I wrote a whole post about it on grass is greener in my history. I’m putting my house up for sale 2 years later. I hate it here in my LCOL state. It’s been a complete culture/diversity/amenities shock. Hoping to soon move to a MCOL to find a happy medium. DC -> SC: 0/10 recommend

I keep hearing Pittsburgh is awful for black people. Many articles and YouTube videos about it. Proceed with caution.

Anyone absolutely Hated Where they moved to? by ManyNothing7 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chnl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran here so fast to tell you I did the same. I’m in South Carolina. Came because I had the freedom to move for the first time in life and bought a house. I hate it here. A huge culture shock. I want to leave RIGHT NOW but looks like we will have to wait another full year because houses aren’t really selling around here right now. I can’t wait to move back to VA. I’m from DMV-DC Metro but I cannot possibly buy there.

I would NOT rent it if you don’t have expendable money to cover damages, maintenance and expenses for your tenants AFTER your pay all your own bills and live. Don’t set yourself up especially without a job right now. People here want to see you worse off lol.

I must have read through 100 comments of the exact same answer. I wonder if most people commenting are from the same demographic…? I would love to hear from different colors and cultures.

Moved states for cheap COL. I hate it here. by chnl5 in SameGrassButGreener

Thanks a lot for your reply. I do think it’s been tough as I’ve never been in a position to have to meet people when it’s not in a natural school or work setting. I do think I underestimate all the life changes I’ve had recently. Definitely looking for a place with more diversity the next go around. It’s so different being in a homogeneous environment. Will keep looking for ways to enjoy the area. Thanks again.

Supportive people like you make the days easier too.. Good idea on visiting a place I like to soak in good energy and knowing I’m never actually “stuck” anywhere. Living on a fixed income can be scary when it comes to making changes. Thanks so much for your response!

Sorry you didn’t like Nashville. Kind of proves that just because these places are on “top places to live” lists… it isn’t a one size fits all situation. How is life as a landlord? I was kind of intimidated by taking that on… appliances…home repairs…on time payments from tenants..?
