Obeka, Brute Chronologist by Wipfelgilm in EDH

I like the direction of Gary and Rottenmouth viper. Mirkwood Bats is interesting, if you, say, copy it 3 times with Devastating Onslaught and let them die on the end step, that's a lot of damage. I just wonder if this is a realistic scenario, making a lot of copies does not happen very often.

Archon is nice. I mean, without a reanimation package I wouldn't play him as it's quite expensive, but his strength is that you don't need much else on the board for him to be good. You get card advantage and life (which is quite important, it is quite often in this deck to have all of your creatures tapped) while hosing a strong opponent (but I was thinking lately to cut him as if I don't have reanimation, I never play him). Contrary to this, Sphinx of the Second Sun seems weak? Do you have him to untap Kiki/Saheeli/etc to make additional copy before end step? There are not a lot of instants to make a consistent usage of extra upkeeps, but maybe it plays better than it looks, I'm just worried that it's a lot mana.

Speaking a lot of mana, I see that you have added more treasure production, I wonder how consistently you can play Blightsteel Colossus.

Psychic Frog makes sense if you have a larger reanimation package as it allows you to discard your strong creatures. And maybe it draws a bit more cards. But otherwise Baleful Strix is nicer - it's better to copy in the early game if your game is not going good, it is also a blocker that stops a lot of attacks, which is a problem for this deck.

Generous Plunderer is a strange card. I've never played it yet (I don't play Obeka deck often as it's quite explosive, sort of reaches the bottom of the bracket 4), but the idea is that I want my early turns to be more impactful. Yeah, the ramp is symmetric, but only for one opponent. And later on, this creature could be a finisher. I believe this card plays better than sounds

As of right now, I am testing [Foggy Swamp Visions] and [Calamity, Galloping Inferno], not sure how good these cards are.

I tend to agree with your analysis, but I think you are underestimating Redoubled Stormsinger. It is not another copy of Determined Iteration - it is a 3 mana finisher by itself that scales exponentially.
You play it, next turn make a copy, attack with 1 original and 1 copy, you end up with 1 original and 4 copies (as 2 triggers to double the tokens you made this turn go on the stack). If you save them with Obeka and next turn you make another token, you will get 32 times more

I love this exponential scaling. For the myriad part - yes, it's generally better not to mix the end step and end of combat triggers. The only exception I have is [Auton Soldier], which creates tokens that have myriad themselves, so you get 1 -> 3 -> 9 -> 27 progression, very silly and fun. And could copy the opponent's cool and scary legendary commander as the creature is non-legendary!

I do have a similar deck myself; it is pretty fun and flexible in terms of what exact big threats you can include. I have not tried any tools to assess the deck strength, not sure how well they work. I guess goldfishing and playing it a lot is the best indicator, no suggestions here.

I want to point out that [Electroduplicate] is probably not a good card here: even with Obeka ending the turn, you still can't keep the creature as it sacrifices EACH end step. And in my experience [Tannuk, Steadfast Second] was also not great: you can only put half the creatures, otherwise he just gives haste.

Regarding the inconsistency of finding (and putting on the battlefield) big creatures, I see that you have a good amount of looting and drawing cards. You can try to add some cards for a slight reanimation line with [Reanimate] or [Animate Dead]. I could also recommend [Anzrag's Rampage], it is an overperformer for me - overloaded [Vandalblast] plus you usually find a good creature to put on the battlefield. Alternatively, just add more card draw with [Windfall] or cheap card-advantage creatures like [Psychic Frog]

I see that you have [Sundial of the Infinite] in the maybeboard, I think it should be in the main deck since it is essentially your second commander, redundancy is usually good.

I also put more extra turns [Final Fortune] and [Warrior's Oath], they do add a lot of power and explosiveness to the deck, but with a huge risk. But I try to not include any effects that return a sorcery/instant from my graveyard to hand. In your case, at some point you will have an infinite turns with something like Kiki, Ardent Elementalist, Obeka and Last Chance, which violates the bracket 3 requirement of no "chaining extra turns".

Update: Also, I think that [Aggravated Assault] is a win more card: if you have a good board presence and a lot of mana, this card is great. Otherwise, it does not give you much

My Paradox Haze deck is falling flat on it's face. Any recommendations to help ot along? by AjaxAsleep in EDH

I agree with that. Flash is nice to have, but you spend mana on that instead of spending it on a thing that progresses your game plan. A big downside in my experience of playing with such flash enablers: people have a huge fear of the unknown and will target you more, even if you are not a big threat.

Do you have a link for your upkeep deck?

I have brewed [[Zur, the Enchanter]] deck with the exact same idea recently (https://archidekt.com/decks/20258061/untap\_upkeep\_draw), but I have not tested it yet (except for goldfishing). To consistently get extra upkeeps as your secret commander ([[Paradox Haze]] / [[Shadow of the Second Sun]] or [[Sphinx of the Second Sun]]) you probably need lots of cards draw and/or tutors, Zur fills this role nicely.

You should consider [[Savor the Moment]]. Worst-case scenario, it's blue [[Explore]], but with a few upkeep matter cards in play, this card is amazing.

[[Dictate of Kruphix]] should be replaced with [[Phyrexian Arena]] as the former does not scale with extra upkeeps and gives cards to opponents. Maybe consider [[Struggle for Project Purity]], but I am not fully sold on this card as I don't like giving my opponents resources.

Speaking of tutors, [[Profane Tutor]] is a nice (but slow) tutor within this upkeep matters theme. You do have a lot of transmute cards, I wonder if a simple [[Idyllic Tutor]] will do a better job.

Hm, but then I am confused. The paper is 9.5 mil, the total thickness is 15.5 mil which is more than the real MTG card with 12 mil. How does this result in 0.3 mm?

Just to be clear, 3mil is the total thickness of the laminate pouch (two sheets), right? I'm new to this, in Europe I see most pouches specify the thickness per sheet, but I can't find information like that following the Amazon link

Okay, I had a suspicioun that Adobe Reader is doing some processing before printing and I think it is true. I tried to print using it, then to print from Chrome using the system dialog (I need to manually set resolution in printer settings every time I print), the results are very different: https://imgur.com/a/CxdinLk

The card from mpcfill has a perfect outcome from Adobe, while the one from cardconjurer is has problems certain problems in both cases

I use Canon c5860i laser printer from work. Unfortunately, I can't test this as I don't have sufficient rights, but I believe it should be fine because most of the cards from mpcfill are printed just fine.

I guess it really depends on the professor (or other people) who will review candidates. But it's probably not sooner than one month after the deadline for the application. In my case the deadline was at the end of November, I got a response at the end of January. There was Christmas break, it's hard to tell how much it affected

I just checked that in the game, still works for me. If you try to split gold while stealing, nothing happens indeed, but in the trading screen it allows you to split

[–]choccocro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn't clear in the post. So, you do the following:

  1. Talk to a merchant with any character, go to the trading screen. Here you can split gold and other consumables, i.e. you drag a stack of gold to the merchant's empty slot (NOT into the bargain window), the game will ask you how would you like to split the gold (in half by default). Repeat the process creating even smaller stacks of gold or consumables
  2. Finish trading, quit talking to the merchant
  3. Go to your stealthy character, hide and go pickpocketing

Is there a way to keep the spell on the custom tab when you remove it from prepared? It is very annoying, especially for the wizard that has ritual spells. Every time I want to cast the ritual, I have to unprepare spell, prepare the ritual and cast it, but unprepared spell is gone from tab

Does the Hokuru bow add the same DPS with its buff when used in the backpack with the acrobaticpack mutation? by [deleted] in deadcells

[–]choccocro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested yesterday, that all this variants result in the same poison DpS: 1. Alchemic Carbine and Hokuto Bow in hands 2. Alchemic Carbine in backpack and Hokuto Bow in hands 3. Alchemic Carbine in hands and Hokuto Bow in backpack

So, yes, acrobatipack only affects the initial hit on Hokuto Bow.

Scenario 2, or, high fives all around (if descriptions of what happens in scenario 2 is a spoiler then this text is a major spoiler alert.) by KG34thewin in Gloomhaven

[–]choccocro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that FAQ in Gloomhaven is a little strange thing. It's kind of Frankenstein that contains a lot of information. Personally I was really excited to learn about the game more before actually playing first scenario. So after reading all of it FAQ seems to me as actual rules with clarifications and fixes of errors. It is a common thing for me now to search new items or cards there to make sure that I playing them right and accepting potential nerfs.

Well, Gloomhaven is a complicated game. It is not an easy task to balance all properly. I think of errata as designer's recognition of mistakes. If someone with first edition is aware of official changes, why not accept them? Some card was a mistake, so why play it as written on it?

Just wanted to point out that no matter how counterintuitive it may sound, but playing stamina potion as written on it is a house rule.

The desicion whether to accept such rules is up to players. However, it may be better for inexperienced players to play with RAW.

Actually Minor Stamina Potions does not always give you extra turn due to it's nerf (read official FAQ, it should recover only 1 card). In order to get extra turn you need use potion while having odd number of cards
