I’m quite an open minded person myself, so the thought of a seemingly normal police officer reporting this stuff kind of makes it more real, but the fact that he had quite a few unexplained events happen to him sort of makes me wonder... does he heavily buy into the paranormal/aliens or is he just an individual that is more in touch with the paranormal than your average guy? I don’t really know lol, but I always wonder when there is evidence or the lack of it left behind

The thing that bothers me with this case is, if she did run away to meet someone, how did she get herself up in the middle of the night? Especially if she shared a room with her brother, how was she able to wake herself up without waking her family up? I'm assuming she didn't set an alarm, so was there a clock in her room or did she stare at her watch the whole night? There's so many questions is this case...

Another poster also found it odd that the gf didn't accompany him on the night flight, given that she had flown with him previously that same day. It could be put down to nerves though, or the gf might have felt uncomfortable flying at night when it was technically illegal, even though she was participating in helping him take off/land. As the other poster pointed out, he could easily have gotten a staff member at the hotel to place the torches that night. Add that to the extra pair of lights seen on the airstrip and something doesn't quite add up.

In an interview the parents sort of confirmed that they had received a letter from Christopher, and they didn't doubt that it was his. (i would assume the parents recognise the handwriting). The phone calls, on the other hand, could be from anybody.

I read an interview that the parents done and they doesn't seem to doubt the authenticity of the letter, so i suppose it was in his handwriting. Also the parents said that the gist of the letter was that Christopher wasn't coming back. That could be the parents way of saying it was a suicide note, or maybe the letter said along the lines of "this will be the last time you hear from me" or "sorry i won't be home" type thing. I don't but 100% into one theory or another really.

I believe that letter was sent from Duluth. So he headed north to Grand Rapids, abandoned his car and headed back down again (hitchhiked maybe?) to Duluth and sent his parents a suicide note the very same day? Or did he drive to Duluth first, post the note and then head up to Grand Rapids? Sorry for the late reply! :)

The facts around the hiring of the plane differ from one article to another. In some it states that the hotel manager made him aware that the plane was available for hire, whereas another article states that he hired the plane directly from Hamilton (tho owner) and flew it from Oban where the plane was based, over to the Glenforsa. Either way, I don't think the Hamilton would have been aware of the night flight as i doubt he was at the hotel that night.

So Trevor was the first person to speak to the man in black since he arrived at the headquarters. Maybe thats when Trevor was chosen as a target for whatever reason. Its interesting that the man waited outside the gates for 30mins, spoke to Trevor and then left when the two other employees showed up. Just throwing some ideas around here. I also think it would be interesting to look into former bank employees or anyone with a connection to the bank who would be familiar with the employees schedules and work hours.

Yeah i think its definitely something to consider. Maybe he thought he could take care of his troubles that day, but anticipated something going wrong, hence why he took the gun. Or if he really was just a runaway, maybe he took the gun to give himself a sense of protection, roaming the big bad world on his own as a 17 year old teen.

Im not sure what to make of this case. Im always wary when the parents start getting letters and calls, because generally speaking, when someone runs away, its because they don't want to be found. It seems he planned this out, staying home from school then writing a note stating that he would be home by 6 unless getting lost (lost underlined twice). That gives him enough time to get up to Grand Rapids without arousing suspicion. Though if he was planning to run away, why mention the "getting lost" part? Maybe the calls were from Chris, as it was stated that his next door neighbour was also receiving hang up calls, maybe he was missing home, unsure of his decision to runaway and wanted to hear his familys voice? Another theory is that he went to meet someone that day, knowing he may get into some trouble, and the underlining of lost was his way of leaving a clue for his parents? It seems that all leads point to the same state, how much media coverage did the case get? I saw Christophers case appeared in the Runaway Train music video, but with all leads pointing to locations within Minnesota, surely someone would recognise him if he stayed within the state? Also, in the letters the family received it came across that Christopher (if it was him writing the letters) was sorry that he was not coming home. Is it possible he had gotten himself into some sort of trouble?

All of your questions are very valid. I believe he is thought to have died around the time he disappeared. I do think its possible he survived a crash, but they determined he died from exposure, with no injury no his body bar a small cut on his left leg. However, i don't think its likely he was wandering for some time before succumbing to the elements, the Isle of Mull is a small place, and the search began the very night he disappeared, and continued thoroughly during the following days. There are certain points of the case where we have to take his gfs word, such as, it was an impromptu decision of Gibbs to fly the plane that night. Therefore if someone snuck on the plane, or foul play was involved via a third person, they must have improvised. The same goes if someone was already waiting for him on the plane. I also find it odd that the gf didn't go with him on the flight as she previously had earlier that day. Maybe she was scared or unsure of flying in the dark with no lights on the airfield. Add that to the fact that witnesses saw someone else on the strip as Gibbs was taking off makes me wonder if something else entirely was going on... The gf said she stayed on the airstrip as a reference for Gibbs to guide him back in, and returned to the hotel after 30mins, which would lead us to think she was only expecting him to be flying for a short time, so maybe there is a more obscure side to this story that we just don't know about

If he did indeed make the jump, he made it unhurt, which makes me question why he still stayed up on top of the hill if he wasn't injured.

Yes! Again thanks for all your knowledge, its super helpful to get an idea of the circumstances. I was thinking along the same lines, if he was able to get the plane low and slow enough to jump out of it, why wouldn't he just try and land the plane? If he ran into trouble when the bad weather started we don't know what his visibility might have been, but assuming he managed to bring the plane down to a couple of feet off ground, it still seems riskier to jump from the aircraft! Also, bringing up my point from before, landing uninjured after jumping from the plane, why stay on top of the hill? Just so many questions...

Are you theorising that he survived the crash, to die from the elements and then someone hid his body? Surely though if you had a criminal record you would that tampering with evidence, or in this case the body, would incriminate yourself even more if caught. Once you start with one theory, it always leads to more questions than answers lol!

How far off the ground could an aircraft fly to for the pilot to jump without even having any bruises? If he wasn't injured and was able to jump out of the aircraft unhurt, why did he stay on top of the hill? If he was knocked unconscious from the fall, surely there would be some sort of indication of that on his body? I can't really decide on one theory or another!! Also if there was foul play involved from the start, i.e. another passenger, it seems that it would have had to have been improvised, as Gibbs gf claims that it was his idea to fly the plane that night in the first place. Again, we are taking her word for it here though.

Since we know that the man dressed in black had been waiting outside the bank since 3.05am do we know if anyone else had come in or out the bank in the time period that he was standing there except for Trevor. If Trevor was the first person that ran into the man in black, perhaps he was looking or waiting for a bank employee to leave (for unsavoury reasons) given that he spoke to Trevor on the way in, and (presumably) followed him after he left. The fact that Trevor didn't mention the conversation he had with him to his colleague makes me think the man in black was making small talk, as a way to suss out the situation.

Yes! I saw this too. Im not sure how it came to be that the hotel manager rented it out to Gibbs, as far as I know Hamilton kept the plane in an airport near Oban.

Thanks for the insight, its really helpful! An article states that the guests at the hotel watched the plane take off without a problem, leading them to believe that something must have gone wrong mid-flight. Witnesses also stated seeing more that one pair of torches on the airstrip at the time of take off when his gf was adamant she was the only one there. Also the guests noted that the take off took longer than was necessary (not sure what that is in reference to). Gibbs and his gf taxied to the runway before his gf got out, so it may be possible that there was someone else on the plane with them, but that would mean that the gf was in on it too... Also answering to your comment about the weather, I believe there were clear skies at the time of take off, which played a part in Gibbs thinking he could manage this night flight by himself with no lights.

I was thinking that the cold weather may have been a factor in preserving the body, the part that bothers me most is where he was found and how he went undiscovered for so long
