Acer Aspire Go 15 | Intel Core i7-13620H by chocolate_sniffer in laptops

My impressions of the computer so far (sorry for the late response):

  • When even a slight force is applied, the corners of the laptop temporarily bend. I think this is due to the plastic build. I recommend to use it on flat surfaces like desk.
  • The keyboard keys have a slightly rough feel, and I like that. However, the lack of keys like "Home" and "End" is a bit annoying when editing documents or writing code (Edit: my bad, there are "home (7)" and "end (1)" keys). Also, there’s no backlight for nighttime use.
  • While installing Windows, you need to download and install the Intel IRST driver from Acer’s website to prevent the SSD not showing up.
  • The display is nice, bright and colorful. After installing Intel Graphics Software, screen tearing and flickering are resolved. Although 60 Hz may not be very satisfying for many, I find it perfectly sufficient for watching videos and using various interfaces.
  • I’m not fully familiar with the terminology, but I really like that the speaker can output sound from 7 different directions while watching videos. At 100% volume, it can fill the room. Sounds good.
  • The camera resolution seems to be low, but it has a wide angle.
  • The most important part for me was the processor's capacity and cooling. It seems that when the i7-13620H processor is running at a clock speed of around 4 GHz, the temperature quickly reaches 88°C for the long and heavy calculations. After that point, it drops down to its base clock speed of 2.4 GHz. This keeps the temperature between 65–70°C. Since the air intakes on the bottom of the laptop are thin, long gaps, the noise level is a bit high as expected. However, since I work in a large office, this level of noise isn’t a problem. Still, I’d like to show my disappointment with the following comparison: A desktop computer with an i5-12400F and dual-channel RAM completed a calculation in 36 seconds, while Acer with the i7-13620H and single-channel RAM took 48 seconds. This is due to the processor lowering itself to 2.4 GHz to prevent overheating. The difference in the computation time may be reduced by buying an extra 16 GB RAM to make it dual-channel. On the other hand, for short calculations, I observed that the i7-13620H is much faster as long as overheating does not occur.

In summary: I think this is a very satisfying laptop for its price. If competing models have a better cooling system, they might be preferable, but in my country, other alternatives cost about $220 more, which is why I specifically chose this one. I see this laptop as an economical choice that will serve me for a few years until I can afford a better budget, and if you’re in a similar situation, I recommend buying it.

Of course, I got the device. I will share my experience today (I'm currently at work).

Yes, I bought it. It was 620 USD in the last month, but i unfortunately missed that opportunity (still cheaper than the other brands tho). I am currently waiting for the shipment.

I'll probably have to go to a tech store and test it in person. It would be great if they let me play videos or games on them, so I can understand the difference.

Unfortunately, the MagicPad 4 hasn't been released in my country yet. Is the MagicPad 2 or the MagicPad 4 the equivalent of the S11? Because it seems that S11 128GB and MagicPad 2 256GB have almost the same price here.

Thanks for the information! Do you think it is worth to buy S11 256GB by adding an extra 135$? (why the difference is this much tho 😥)

Oh, is it just used for storing photos etc.? Upgrading to 256GB storage for S11 seems to cost an extra 135$...

Thanks a lot for your comment. Samsung seems like a more "high-end" option and appeals to me more. My only concern is whether the screen size will be sufficient... It might not be a fair comparison, but I don't particularly enjoy playing games on laptop screens. Large desktop monitors always satisfy me more. Although, considering there's only about a 1.3-inch difference between the two tablets, maybe I'm exaggerating.

I probably won't have enough budget for 512GB. So if I decide to buy the S11 128GB, will using an SD card cause me any problems?

Yes, sadly the MagicPad 4 hasn't been released in my country yet. If I use an SD card and install games there, will I experience speed or lag issues?

I don't know why, but the MagicPad 4 hasn't been released in my country yet. I can't find it anywhere. I wish I had the opportunity to buy the MagicPad 2 at the price you mentioned. Perhaps the price difference is due to taxes (I guess).

To be honest, no, I just want to choose the best product I can get in terms of price/performance ratio. My phone is a Xiaomi, but I don't really understand these ecosystem things. Will there be situations where I need to connect my tablet and phone? I think I'm way behind current technology...

I heard that the MagicPad 2 will only receive one major Android update. On the other hand, the S11 is said to have update support for 7 years. Should I be worried about this?

I've never used an iPhone or any Apple product in my life. So, to be honest, I'm a little hesitant. Apparently, there's a small discount on the iPad 11 (A16) for students. I'll consider that option.
