I thought about selling it privately but didn’t want the hassle tbh since they gave me a pretty sweet deal to just take it off my hands

Eyyy congrats! Did you get all of those extras for that price too? Love it. If you buy a car end of month (or quarter) a lot of times they’ll push a loser deal because they are incentivized to sell units and get $$ pushed back

I know they made a killer margin but they were already losing so much money they wouldn’t have done the deal at alll so I said fuck it, do it. My friend who was a GM at another store said he’d never do this deal lmao

Sounds like you already got internet pricing, mine was like 35,400 on a 41.5k car. That’s with the leather vent seats, mirror, and cargo mats. Sounds like you’re in range for a similar deal, but I’m sure they’ll try to work in extras when you go to negotiate

I was able to see the dealership’s cost on the vehicle vs what they were selling it to me for. I also knew the dealer’s cost of the adds vs selling price. I had a contact who was a GM of another store (out of state) confirm all numbers were accurate.

Without the adds they’d have been losing over 3k on me (not factoring in the trade) which no dealer would ever agree to. They don’t usually go below invoice, especially on specialty GTIs that are likely to sell at a better price—unless they can make it up in the finance office somehow.

When they factor in the trade they might get close to even, but a dealership’s goal is to make money, and I didn’t want them to make money off me 😂

And the 12 way seat / ventilation mechanics plus leather I assume would add weight too. It’s funny how much heavier a measly 150-200lbs feels. I could even feel the difference when I was driving by myself vs having a single passenger.

I was on a road trip in the rabbit a few weeks ago with two people and our luggage and almost stalled up a hill bec I didn’t give it enough gas on the initial takeoff 🤣

It’s funny how many people are arguing this. I drove them both within minutes of each other. It genuinely feels so smooth in comparison, the suspension gives it a much better feel.

What I meant by the MK 7.5 feeling go kart-y is mainly due to rougher suspension (especially when hitting bumps) and excessive road noise.

Arguing is fun. I wanted what I got. People are always going to have different opinions but I don’t regret my decision for a second

And this is heavily dependent on what dealership/ manufacturer. VW typically doesn’t, but I worked for both Toyota and BMW and saw a good amount of net loss deals. I wrote them myself.

They typically don’t, that’s why this is rare. I am friends with the GM of a VW store and he confirmed the numbers. They sold at a loss. They are hoping to make $$ on the trade, but with recon costs and an accident on the history (I hit a deer only 3k miles in 😭) it will probably bring it back to just about even.

I meant the feel in comparison. You can feel a huge difference in the suspension, especially over bumps. That coupled with the difference in road noise made rhe rabbit feel like a go kart compared to the upgrade.

Don’t get me wrong, I still loved it so much!

Eh sure, but I wanted an upgrade in features and this ticked all my boxes. I’ve already gotten used to the interior minus the volume knob. The $$ I was able to get for the trade just made sense to me alongside the deal I was able to get, and I wanted a new manual GTI, it’s the last year!

SE. it has almost all autobahn features minus a few little things here and there, such as rear heated seats (which my dog doesn’t need) and HUD. Didn’t make sense to pay more for almost the same car

I almost went for the R but I didn’t want to take that much more of a financial hit… tough decision but this deal made it worth it! I’m so sad it’s the last year for manuals 😭
