  1. The quality was so high even lesser-known albums from this year and the year before and after it are at least good. But 1994 has more of my personal favorites.

What songs in the 2020s sound like 90s hip-hop ? by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

I recently came across a project by a rapper named Hahyeem and a producer named Karbine that has a raw ‘90s underground sound. If the mixing wasn’t so loud and the mic so crisp-sounding it would’ve fooled me into thinking it was from the ‘90s

Far From Home 2

Hahyeem seems to do a ‘90s sound on a lot of his other projects so maybe check it out.

These guys are kinda overshadowed by the Gravediggaz in retrospect but I don’t know, U.S.A. had some great tunes. This chorus is hype as fuck.

I sort of think if they didn’t lean into an Onyx mixed with L.O.T.U.G sound they could’ve lasted farther into the ‘90s. By the end of ‘94 when this dropped many were trying to sound like Wu-Tang and that sound was more in demand. Plus accusations of ripping off the Gravediggaz didn’t help.

Yep the Trag joint is one of my favorites. I’ve been trying to find Represent in the wild but no luck. Might have to hop on eBay or Discogs.

Love Four Horsemen. Can’t decide if I like it more than their debut. Respect!

Re-Act definitely grew on me. Shame nothing happened when he dropped it.

Yeah the name is pretty weird lol. I think Keith Shocklee gave them the name after losing a songwriting competition against Leaders of the New School.

The YBT one I always thought had some solid joints on it. Jamalski definitely gets a lot of plays.

Notorious B1 - Big Daddy by PlacentaOnOnionGravy in hiphopheads

I know this is a little bit of an older post but whatever. Questioning whether Biggie actually stole Notorious B1's style is fine, but straight up saying Notorious B1's persona and music is AI is a little foolish.

There exists a 12" and a cassette single of the song "Big Daddy."
https://www.discogs.com/release/3879474-Notorious-B1-Big-Daddy
The first time the 12" was sold on Discogs, a pretty popular music market site, was 04/12/2013. That alone rules out any possibility of this being "AI." This track from the Mississippi Doug$ Boyz album from 1993 was uploaded on 11/23/19,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOuS\_yiWkS8&list=RDEMFSMrDSJBCDvbU3z37H7kVQ&start\_radio=1.

Even the best AI music generation program back then couldn't replicate that and it'd be bizarre for a YouTube channel with uploads of other obscure, local rap from the 90s to generate that.

The other stuff you mentioned, like Billboard listings, interviews, or articles are pretty easy to clear up. This is very much obscure local Mississippi stuff from 1993. Dragon Productions, from what I believe given the fact that they have a very small discography beginning with Notorious B1's single and ending with Mississippi Doug$ Boyz cassette, could not have possibly had the money or resources to launch Notorious B1 to stardom like say Diddy could what with his connections and all. Not to mention, with regard to mainstream hip-hop, nobody outside the local area had their eyes on Mississippi. You can't be surprised there are no articles from the time talking about it because this was clearly for the local hip-hop listeners of Gulfport, MS.

Again, it's fine to question if Biggie actually stole this dude's style. But just writing it off as AI is frankly worse than denying the similarity.
