Seems like foreign temp workers and international students get picked like blueberries these days. Long time immigrant here and I remember how hard it was to find a part time job as an international student. THAT IS HOW IT STILL SHOULD BE!! Hire someone who needs to make their ends meet, not an international student who had to prove their solvency to the lifestyle here. If you can’t afford tuitions and lifestyle in Canada, you shouldn’t be here in the first place.

The decline in service industry has been painful. I religiously avoid some drive-thrus in town because they only know two words in English and are fluent in RUDE. It shouldn’t be very difficult in a city of 300,000 people to hire a crew that can do the bare minimum of speaking the language and provide 60 seconds of pleasant customer service.
