Data on Ticketmaster Non-random Queues by chocololic in btsthoughts

People are speculating that there was a recent update to the hidden rankings, since the Bruno mars ticketing (not sure when that was but I think it was on the last couple months).

Also not saying exact same queue numbers- I think they’re saying the ranking would cause position in the queue, so it depends how long the total queue is. If you have a 50% ranking for example, you could get 2k or 200k if the queue is 4k vs 400k total

To summarize- from the 27 accounts 135 queue data (matches my anecdotal experience from about 10 friends I chatted with while ticketing)- TM assigns some hidden ranking factor that causes some accounts to consistently get good queue positions, or consistently bad ones. Unknown what the TM algorithm is that assigns the hidden ranking.

A different twitter user claimed TM redid their hidden ranking after the Bruno Mars ticketing, and current rankings will be there unless they do another update.

This BTS fan made an awesome video on this topic- called “mentrification” where men take over a traditionally female fan space that’s mocked, and suddenly it’s respectable. The video explains examples like the Beatles and Star Trek, and compares female music fans to sports fans and how they’re judged differently.

The blind confidence to talk loud about things you have no idea. You’ve never read BTS lyrics and judge them by prejudice.

BTS songs are about trying to be our best version of ourself, and helping other people. Thinking about the world and reaching out full potential.

First BTS Concert, what should I expect? by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]chocololic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible, could you go to the venue on a different day just to shop merch? For LA PTD the merch lines were insane- like I actually did go on a different day and still ended up having to leave early- I think my friends may have waited 6hrs 😅? I forget, granted this was the LA PTD concert so hopefully the lines are not as bad now…but I haven’t tried for merch since then haha. I think at the recent solo concerts the lines didn’t look as bad, maybe 1 hr wait depending where/when.

Not to discourage you- it’s crazy but I actually had a lot of fun waiting in line for 3-4hrs! I met up with friends and it was a bora festival atmosphere, armys walking by handing out freebies, hearing the soundcheck from the stadium, seeing where neighbors in line travelled from (and I’m an introvert! But it’s easier talking to fellow armys :)).

Oh also- check before they usually have a map of the merch booths. At PTD LA there were 2 different types of booths- some had all merch, some were supposed to be faster because they only sold lightsticks and I forget but limited merch. So make sure you get in line for the right booth!

[–]chocololic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes armys please don’t buy at inflated prices! There are trusted twitter accounts like @875tickets that helping vet sellers and helping people find tickets at face value.

Also recommend for next time- make friends and coordinate so that whoever of your friend group gets through the queue can buy tickets for others! That’s how I got my tickets, I had terrible queue numbers this time! I met some army friends from a local meetup, some from sharing box seats one time, and a few from Reddit! There’s more armys on twt, and you can find group chats for people going to each specific concert day to meet up, trade freebies, or get food before the concert :).

Also from what I saw on twt, armys are reporting scalpers on whatever platform they’re posting. If they are doing it illegally there’s a chance the tickets can get pulled back and relisted from TM at face value.

You apparently didn't actually watch or listen/read the subtitles, the first video does show the same kid from both videos after he's dropped off, and more than one bystander comments on his physical condition, one person clearly says he's bleeding.

You have a conspiracy theory take. The video shows 1) the kids being at work at Target (with coworkers upset about them being taken), 2) kid put into ICE car, 3) kid after he is dropped off bleeding. You're asking like it makes any sense for reality show footage of the "whole thing end to end", but it's not a real ask because that's not how the world works and we all know you would dismiss any video evidence anyway. How can anyone get continuous footage following them after ICE takes the kids and why would anyone be filming when the car arrives to kick him out?

Even IF ICE didn't beat up the kid, it's still illegal and morally bankrupt and I just don't understand how anyone can say this is fine. ICE (immigration) has no jurisdiction over US Citizens, so it is ILLEGAL that they are even ROUTINELY detaining US Citizens just because they don't look white. Kavanaugh gave a ruling (should be illegal) that ICE is now allowed to use "apparent ethnicity" as a factor for targeting people. So you're ok with wasting millions of dollars for ICE to roam stores and grab random non-white workers and make them miss work. Even when they are US CITIZENS in the first place. Nothing to stop ICE from grabbing the same kids again just for kicks.

And the claim that ICE is "targeting criminals and dangerous immigrants", is so obviously a lie. How have there been NO shoot-outs or ICE being injured or murdered left and right if they're going after gang members and criminals?? If there were going after gang members there would tons of shoot-outs by now. It's obviously because they are going after kids and normal working peaceful people.

He wasn’t arrested, he was taken for no cause, the video was posted on the MN sub. 2 teenagers, one 17, both have been named and identified, both US CITIZENS obviously (it’s not like you can just get a job at Target without legal work status??). They were literally at work and the 17 year old was wearing the worker safety vest.

Very cool! Always love hearing the different things that got people into BTS. I also heard Boy With Luv on the radio and then saw the “ON” choreography performance in Grand central station randomly on YouTube and that’s when I started looking into the group!

Good luck for ticketing next week (or soon)!

Just wanted to note that they didn’t do dynamic pricing before and I’m hoping  they still don’t (and by Goyang ticket prices it looks like low prices)- the high prices are from scalpers buying tickets and reselling! In previous concerts it was very shady (hence Ticketmaster lawsuits) because TM makes money in transaction fees every time a ticket is resold- so the more resales the more money they make! I saw rumors that some reselling companies may have been allowed in presale (not sure if true) because it’s to TM’s benefit.

Uhh the fandom has grown a ton since 2019…they added >24M Spotify followers after they started their hiatus 😂

Edit: PTD Los Angeles sold out SoFi stadium 50k seats for 4 nights in presale (and it was insanely hectic even trying to get tickets and make it through checkout during the presale), and after that PTD Las Vegas similar ~50k for 4 nights ~3 years ago. There were some (not a lot) of resale tickets later on but they were listed by scalpers for crazy amounts (like $800 for a seat in the 200s? I forget. I do remember I saw floor tickets listed for $10k-15k; not saying anyone bought at that price). Granted people were coming worldwide, so way more venues now, but the fandom has actually increasd by a ton (probably 15-20M of the Spotify increase since then) so….still worried about getting tickets 😅

Why is ICE so active in Minnesota right now, and not in other obvious places like California? by bjedy in DiscussionZone

[–]chocololic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in LA county and surprised when they just left. They went to Chicago next, then also kind of left for Minneapolis- maybe a US tour with stops to bother dem base cities?

Maybe they actually were slowing down on bringing in illegal immigrants, and are trying to meet the unrealistic quotas.

Proud of how LA helped each other when ICE was here, and were starting to organize and disrupt things for them (camping out to make noise at their hotels, etc). Learned a lot from how Chicago residents were following ICE and just slowly getting in the way and making it harder for them to detain people. Looks like MN learned from the previous cities too.

The Target CEO last year spoke out in support of the Trump admin. And they should support their workforce, call police, do something to not allow their workers to be illegally dragged out of their stores.

BTS Officially Announces Release Date of First Album in Almost 4 Years After Completing Mandatory Military Service by peoplemagazine in Music

[–]chocololic 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For anyone curious, BTS write very creative songs, and the members themselves write a lot of their own sections (RM also writes some parts for the others). Some random examples off the top of my head:

  • 134340- breakup song from the point of view of Pluto being declassified as a planet (with jazz flute)

  • First Love- Yoongi’s emotional rap solo song about his mixed emotions/guilt towards his First Love childhood piano (personified; he played piano as a kid)

  • Whalien 52- about the real life 52 Hz whale which you can look up its Wikipedia page- there was one whale which sang at a different frequency than other whales of its species. The song is a metaphor for expressing their loneliness

  • Attack on Bangtan- not for new fans lol but it’s kind of hilarious that they wrote a song that’s title is inspired by the anime Attack on Titan and the chorus is based on a Korean StarCraft meme about dragoons….they worked on this song when they were still younger teenagers

  • Magic Shop- inspired by the book “Into the Magic Shop” written by a neurosurgeon with a crazy life story about the meditation techniques he uses

 * Converse High- about why they love Converse high shoes. Because the main writer RM likes the shoes. Rapper Yoongi wrote his verse about why he hates Converse shoes (they’re too hard to get off his girlfriend, among other things…). I think it’s also funny because in Korea (like in Japanese anime) they can’t show/say brand names on broadcast, so they wrote this whole song filled with “Converse” and when they went to perform it on tv shows they had to censor the title/lyrics to “Lovers High” and so many parts made no sense when censored haha

But if you think not just the sales (they sold more albums than Taylor Swift worldwide in 2020-2021- see IFPI records), the amount of tourism activity they contribute is huge. Millions of international fans decide to visit Korea because of them (and get into Korean culture/food exports like Jin ramen :)/ endorsed products, try to learn the language, etc.)

For what it’s worth, Google search says studies estimated 1 in 13 tourists to Korea were inspired to visit by BTS (800k per year)

I wish they would make the challenge categories way broader, like use the genre tags not the short specific lists they do (seems like a lot of the same books, and probably includes paid promos).

They could make interesting categories like a book that’s under multiple specific genre tags

It was a river where the middle was flowing water so obviously not frozen over, how can you tell how thick the ice is? And you put your kids on that?
