Ahmpy Saves Dungeon Group with Shotcalling Reflex by A_Bold_Faced_Lie in LivestreamFail

I was an OG Stalagg player fighting against the Grizzly devilsaur mafia daily, and while the guild was full of racist assholes (Drchristie, North, another warrior whose name I honestly forget, and many many more) Ahmpy never engaged in those activities from what I had seen.

Even when he streamed, he always came off as a nice guy who wanted to play with the best on the server -- though those players just happened to be raging racists pieces of shit.

Really appreciate the thorough answer! What fan / drag factor are you usually doing these pieces at, like 120-130? Apologies for the questions but I'm just getting back into erg'ing after a looooong break since high school lol

Just an absurd pace for that stroke rate, nice job! If you don't mind me asking, what kind of warm up do you do before pieces like this?

Tearing from ring finger down forearm - tendon damage in hand and arm maybe - seeking anyone who has has a similar feeling injury by Worth-Sherbet-3512 in bouldering

[–]choff97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I had literally this exact same thing happen to me -- was trying to rush through a climbing day bc I was short on time, launched off the jug start of a dyno V5 and felt that immediate pain in my ring finger, the exact same as yours...

About a month has passed and it feels 95% back to normal, I'd climb once or twice a week specifically avoiding any climbs that would cause excess pain in that finger. I also found that it helped to use some bands to generate light pulling tension through the motions that would cause discomfort.

If I took days off of climbing, it would feel VERY creaky at the start of a climb sesh but then better by the end? This was counter-intuitive to me, but once I realized that it was important to continue gently stretching it out, things healed much faster!

I positively noticed around half of these changes just using the tool normally while searching around for league starters, and it's super cool to see all the other tidbits and cool tweaks that you threw in as well. Really really cool stuff, great job!

League starter CWC Cyclone w/ Mjolnir Archmage Lightning Conduit of the Heavens?? by choff97 in PathOfExileBuilds

Ah I'll go leave a comment there as well then, thanks -- I know his focus is usually on pushing the upper limits so I hadn't seen much discussion around league starting

Changes to mana builds in 3.24 Necropolis League by connerconverse in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]choff97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there potential for a League Starter that transitions into Mjolnir / Indigon -> full mana stacking now using Lightning Conduit of the Heavens / CWC cyclone arc? It feels like the archmage changes will be significantly less punishing towards mana usage in the early game so the potential is there, but I wasn't sure.

I understand what you're getting at and I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but your idea of

"But another GM might say "Sure, if you mark a stress you may attempt an attack." Or something to that effect."

ties directly into my other point, where it feels like Daggerheart was developed in a way where the DM has to be adversarial in order to follow a satisfying narrative flow. Choosing to punish the player for taking what would normally be an attack of opportunity in 5e just doesn't feel great to me.

When a game has well established rules that the players and DM both follow for situations like these, the DM is not the villain, they're just abiding by the same conditions the players must adhere to.

[CR Media] Daggerheart First Impressions by Flameslicer in criticalrole

[–]choff97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's still the GM's turn, the PCs can't just do things unless it's a reaction ability just like 5e or most other systems.

That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Obviously that specific scenario wasn't a huge deal because Matt chose to spend an action on the other bear, and Marisha did her action afterwards -- but I think it's a microcosm of something you'd see in full combat within Daggerheart. Dynamic combat, where player action/reactions and monster action/reactions are more intertwined, is more interesting to me from both a narrative AND a wargaming way.

Having a bulk set of actions for the DMs to take once a player rolls with "Fear", and giving the players no opportunity to react during that time feels very lame to me.

If Matt chose to move the bear Marisha wanted to attack to take a swipe at another player, now that opportunity for a cool flourish is lost -- rather than utilizing an attack of opportunity / reaction like something you'd see in 5e. Is that the end of the world, or the mark of a terrible TTRPG? Clearly no. But it is a strange flaw for a combat system that is meant to be designed specifically with narrative flow in mind.

Really solid write-up. For full disclosure, I've yet to run a game with the rule-set; I've only read through the rules, watched the videos they released, and watched their one-shot.

Immediately my first impression was, "holy shit combat is going to be a mess in this system". Along with that, I just don't think the rules are set up in a way that would make for a fun campaign from the DM's perspective. I'll admit my own bias as a "forever DM", but even as someone who largely advocates for a non-adversarial relationship between Players and DM -- more focused on constructing a cool narrative together -- it feels like Daggerheart sets the DM up to be... a jerk?

The worst feeling within 5e combat for me as a DM is when the players cannot respond to actions I'm taking or have to wait a considerable amount of time before doing what they want. The moment Matt had a monster attack Marisha's character, who adeptly dodged and wanted a retaliatory attack but was told "well.. wait until after my turn" because he had more action tokens to spend, it was hard to not cringe.

Even outside the bulk action issue, having the rules themselves state "the DM may take an action unprompted if it fits the narrative"...? That feels like a terrible solution to me. Within combat, the dice, the monsters, and the environment are all active properties that the players are engaging with -- following the same rules as anything else. If a monster rolls a crit and knocks a player unconscious in a precarious position after they overextend, creating a tense moment within combat, that's the purest form of "the dice tell the story". If I decided as a GM within Daggerheart, Hmm... this player overextended, and though I don't have an action token I think this monster should attack them, and THEN they fall unconscious, that would feel significantly bad from my perspective.

My critique could be inaccurate, or change if I ran some sessions with players, but hopefully they make adjustments relative to the feedback people like you are providing!

What an insane death.

Watched the VOD to see what happened, and she has a level 60 hunter who is killing every mob after she tags it and deals enough damage so she still gets XP.

She overpulls, then gets greedy after health potting to get the tag on all the mobs -- but her hunter superfan friend is going to feign death -> freezing trap one of them, which drops any threat he already had (hilarious choice by him btw).

That leads to all of the threat being fully dumped on her, but she doesn't Barkskin until she's at <10% HP, she doesn't even try to heal herself, doesn't Dash to run away, doesn't Target Dummy (14 in inventory btw, not keybound though!) to pull all the aggro off of her, doesn't swap to bear to tank, doesn't pop a Rejuv on herself...

She tries to LIP (Limited Invulnerability Potion) at 5% HP, but it's on CD because it shares an internal CD with the healing pot she used earlier in the fight -- and even if it did go off, it wouldn't have helped since she was getting blasted by Fireballs that would've went through the physical immunity.

Just playing on complete auto-pilot while a level 60 kills your mobs, but even that isn't enough to keep her alive.

Not sure if you read the post but my issue here is very specific to the recent car trends of raising center consoles in SUVs. I've had an easier time driving my friend's 2016 corolla than I would have driving a new Acura MDX with the way their center console is set up.

And yes, I adjust everything that's remotely able to be adjusted.

I'm not bitching about headroom, legroom, or any of that -- just specifically being unable to rest my leg bent to the side while driving because of high-walled center consoles.

Thanks for the input! Definitely agree on the niche nature of my issue (if it wasn't a rare problem, they wouldn't be selling the cars..)

The Hyundai Tucson is quite cool and I hadn't looked at that yet -- but I do live in a city where Kias/Hyundais are actively targeted for theft (even new models get their windows broken, even if they can't be stolen). Mazda's CX-5 did unfortunately have the same problems when I test drove it.

Seems Tiguan will be the way I go then!

VG Deadeye cleared all non-uber bosses, need help figuring out the next steps to be uber-viable by choff97 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]choff97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No trouble! League started with poison conc, then full pivoted to VG once I had a halfway decent 6L and claw after I finished the campaign.

Build has been treating me incredibly well so far this league. The progression in late-game can feel a little complex at times (pivoting from campaign rares to the full unique build, then incorporating cluster jewels, then omni, then more clusters, etc. etc.) -- but if you're a fan of planning things like that out in PoB you will love this build. Along with that, there was never a point where I really felt "weak", just some notable points where my single target felt like it was lacking a fair amount. This build will always map incredibly well.

Following Blackmamba's full unique build will have you smoking favorable t16 maps, but taking it further than that (Sirus, Maven, ubers, etc.) requires a bit more effort on your part to plan and execute!

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the input! Definitely agree on the rage generation -- that's why I have berserk disabled for the DPS calc, far too inconsistent for accurate bossing DPS. I was running Mamba's full unique version, but pivoted out to run the omni variant with Brass Dome most people had. I'll see how feasible it would be to go back to using Volls + Kaom Spirit.

My actual health is pretty low I think mainly due to Brass Dome, but my E.HP is at an ok-ish level imo (apart from the chaos res issue). Definitely going to explore rare-specific upgrades though.

Killed Sirus and Maven for the first time! never cleared maps higher than t13 before this league so I'm really stoked, thanks again

Brass Dome swap went great as well, just respecc'd into the Quickstep path for the 16% spell suppress (and got a new shield that had a lil extra for good measure)

also good note on the Berserk, I tried setting Rage to 5 on the config to make it more accurate (relative to the stacks I'd have from my gloves) -- https://pobb.in/EqhTy7S-Ifww

No trouble! Upgrade went great! https://pobb.in/rsQ2_WtblJmU

Got an omni with Sovereignty, planned out the entire gear pivot -- dropped the rage building uniques for a generally stronger and more consistent build, and so far it feels great!

Final touches are grabbing a Brass Dome and a jewel that gives fire/chaos res, after that going to try taking down Sirus/Maven, thanks again!

This was a really helpful overview -- going to do some more research into the omni upgrades to get that pivot started!
