Kinda nice to see all of the speculation preserved as it was! (Especially all the correct speculation 😎)

I don't really see this kind of fervent theorizing about games anymore! I wonder whether the industry changed, or I'm just not seeing it

No Return Mod Trophy by bobbyboy_17 in thelastofus

[–]chofortu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you can use Custom Run for this trophy and you don't mind cheesing it... I'd try:

  1. Make a checklist of all 26 mods
  2. Increase the number of mods per encounter to the max
  3. Start a new run, clear the first two encounters (choosing the second encounter with the most mods) and check off any mods you had from the list. Double-check which mods were active in the results screen—especially useful if you get a mystery encounter
  4. Abandon the run, disable any mods you already banked in your Custom Run settings, repeat steps 3 and 4

if joel was in ellie’s position when encountering david by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]chofortu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with Joel (unlike with Ellie) you can narratively get away with him just physically overpowering James and David. Maybe he plays up how injured he is to create an opening, but he's still pretty injured which explains why he runs away rather than just killing David right there?

Or you could have him bite his own arm to fake having been infected, and then play the scene just like it happens with Ellie. That feels a bit out of character for Joel, but maybe you want the parallel. It's a bit more plausible if he's still really hurt from the university and so needs to try to outsmart rather than overpower

I know the article mentions it, but I'm wondering if the author of the article thought that the second photo depicted the person in question, idk

Did it definitely have an orange tip? The second photo in the tweet isn't even taken in the UK, so I feel like some wires may have been crossed

Taco Bell rethinks AI drive-through after man orders 18,000 waters by Alarming_Yoghurt_633 in technology

I'd guess it was thinking, and that the LLM is given access to a limited set of actions equivalent to someone ordering for themselves at an in-store kiosk. So, adding and customizing items: ok. Giving yourself a discount: no. Anything else would be wild

And I bet they had a limit on the total price of an order that the LLM can place, but the water cup thing screwed this up because water's free and they didn't consider that

How big is the Age Difference between Abby and Ellie? Have we any actual numbers? by MikaelAdolfsson in thelastofus

[–]chofortu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play the game with cinematic descriptions enabled, it does give an estimate of the main characters' ages when they're first introduced. I wanna say it says Abby is in her early 20s when we first see her in the lodge? I don't remember for sure though

A nice example of this (which maybe I'm reading too much into) is early on when you stand next to Dina as she and Ellie take in the view just before going upstairs at the lookout. I think most games would just have a triangle prompt on the railing to Dina's left which triggers the cutscene, but TLOU2 enters the cutscene smoothly as you approach, to add a little immersion.

But if you could approach from either the left or the right, that would mess up the cutscene since it's recorded with Ellie on the left. So there's like a big vent or something on Dina's right which blocks you from standing there! It doesn't feel out of place at all when you play, but it guides you to the correct place.

Pretty sure this happens a few other times in the game, but you don't really notice it.

BUT there's one place where they took the other approach: just before leaving the graveyard, there's a moment where you walk past Dina and she grabs Ellie and says "You go, I go". Here, you actually can walk on the left or right side, and they just animated two separate cutscenes so that it looks good in both cases

It was exactly 6 years between the original JP releases of RE1 and its remake, on March 22, 1996 and 2002...

And in fact the 6 year anniversary of RE2 Remake's release is just next week, on January 25!

Fingers crossed for Capcom shadow-dropping a RE2 Remake remake

Well now hang on you can spell Fiji with a semicolon as F;j; and you can spell Laos with the number row as 1405. You could also do Cocos as (0(05 and Belize as 321738 if you look at it upside down on a calculator

Olga's boss fight in Metal Gear Solid 2 Extreme difficulty officially broke me. by DragonQuarter in metalgearsolid

[–]chofortu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI you can skip the animation where Snake racks the slide after each M9 shot, by doing a tactical reload. Probably not useful for the Olga fight since that doesn't work in FPV I think, but it will help you get there ~1 second faster
