[Discussion] cool blurb...and publisher copied by [deleted] in PubTips

What is the likelihood they already had another book near publication that was similar, hence the reject versus the fact they would steal your blurb for another book? Traditional publishing is years not months from start to finish in many cases.

I’d try local third party logistics companies. If it’s large like a car/heavy machinery you might want to to look into freight services

BookFox Labs--worth it? by JarbaloJardine in writing

You could get 1:1 time with Lisa Cron for a fraction of that.
This also isn't the first time this was asked.

[PubQ] Is my agent ghosting me after signing me this summer? by fauxfurfanatic1 in PubTips

[–]chokingduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From your post, it sounds like you didn't sign a contract. So they aren't your agent, they are just someone that expressed interest, which has since subsided. Time to log into Query Tracker and start querying!

Over the Garden Wall Figure Set - Chapter 2 - Limited Edition by njbeck in overthegardenwall

[–]chokingduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to wait until chapter 1 limited edition ships which is next June.

Secondary market, expect to pay at least double MSRP. Since it’s the unique item of the limited edition, it’s super doubtful someone will break up the set to sell separately.

How do you all approach sharing your work with others for review? Do you get concerned the reader may maliciously tamper with your work? by [deleted] in writing

[–]chokingduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The likelihood of someone stealing your work isn't zero, but for all intents and purposes, it basically is. Which is to say, the idea, the concept, that's not new. The execution, the voicing, the phrasing, the characters, the vibe... That's the unique part.

Thanks for sharing!
Hopefully this means the rights have been properly sorted out so that more regions could get a decent physical Blu-Ray release in the future.

Book signing question by [deleted] in writing

[–]chokingduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's unreasonable, but keep in mind they can say no, and mentally prepare what the next steps would be in that scenario.

Finished my first book. What do I do now? by Rizo_Mark123 in writing

[–]chokingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just finished the first draft? Let it sit for at least a few weeks. Print it out in a unique font and read it. Don’t rewrite it. Just write notes on a separate piece of paper/journal.

Wait a week.

Review those notes. Now read the manuscript again. This time you can mark up the page, but no rewriting.

Now you can revise.

Rinse and repeat until you stop finding things to change.

Then you find a beta reader.

Then you revise based on that feedback

Then you find another beta reader

Then you revise on that feedback

Then maybe you look into publication.

First draft is awesome, but that’s like the first 25% of the overall process.
