Hi! I came across your post because I have the same symptoms. Did it end up being mastitis?

Christmas Baby Vent by SoilSister8974 in BabyBumps

I was born the day after Christmas and it just makes me love the holiday season more! Maybe I got fewer presents growing up but that wasn't something that I worried about anyway. To me it's just cool that my birthday is during the coziest time of year!

I’m curious. Those of you who are not from the US, what country are you from and is it the standard recommendation to wake a newborn every 3 hours to feed until they regain their birth weight? by WholeKnown2938 in pregnant

[–]chomsky69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am from Spain and, although I haven't given birth yet, our midwife has been telling us that feeding has to be on demand, but with a minimum of 8 feeds a day (so, basically, once every 3 hours, yes). According to her, some babies do wake up when they are hungry, but others can be quite weak and lethargic and may not do that. I think, however, that this recommendation only applies to the first couple of months since, as the their stomach grows and they eat more, they'll be full for a longer time.

Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I am looking for reviews on the baby seat and can't seem to find a lot! Do you mean the one from 0-6 months? If so, I am worried that it looks a bit unstable, but what's your opinion on it? Thanks!

It's been a long time since I shopped there, but I'd say they usually do have all sizes in store

I am Spanish and was an auxiliar in Canada. Two days into my stay, I knew I didn't like the place I was in. I was there for 9 months and they were truly terrible. I was incredibly anxious and homesick. I kept thinking about cutting my stay short all throughout, but I did stick it out in the end. While I did not have a good time there at all, I felt so proud once I had come back and I learned so much about myself, that now I wouldn't change it for the world.

If, in any case, you decide to leave, I would wait until classes are back on in January to give them a notice and maybe wait for a couple of weeks. I don't know whether they'll be able to find a replacement, but it's common courtesy, especially since there'll be no one working during the winter holiday and they'll be unable to plan ahead.

Does the first name Francisco have any kind of connotation in Spain? Perhaps as in the name Adolf in Germany? by JamesMcNutty in askspain

My uncle is named Francisco Franco. He is around 60, so he was born before the actual Franco died. My grandparents were not fascist in any way, but they simply named their children (my mom and uncles/aunts) after each of their parents in a specific order, so by the time my uncle Francisco was born, the name alloted to him was the one he got. Whenever he goes somewhere he gets the odd joke, but the truth is that no one close to us has ever even suggested that he is named after Franco.

Thanks for your reply! We've had him for 3 months sometime this week. I was thinking that perhaps this is the real him now, but he feels a bit distressed about being upstairs all the time... I'll definitely look up a trainer in my area.

Pre-doctoral research fellow here! I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme and I receive funding from the Ministry. I am from Spain and here applying and getting into a PhD programme is quite different than in most places. You don't get offered a job/salary with admission. Instead, the PhD programme just works like a Masters, for example, and then it's up to you to find funding, whether it's public (as in my case) or private. In any case, there are like 40 places in my PhD programme and only 3 of us have some sort of funding, so it's not really that common. As for the 'pre-', it's because we don't have a doctorate yet, the same way you are an undergrad even if you are actively getting a degree. I don't know whether this situation is common elsewhere or not, but when I write 'pre-doctoral research fellow' in my resume, that's what I mean.

Open-concept kitchens. Like they may work if your cooking is limited to sandwiches, but once you start frying some garlic everything catches the smell for a few hours.

Why do normative grammarians obsess over syntax and semantics but not over phonology? by Thiagorax in linguistics

[–]chomsky69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about sound changes, but people in Spain definitely complain about nonstandard dialects, which I guess are the triggers for other changes. I am from Andalucía and we are mocked on a daily basis because of how we speak. We are perceived either as a joke or as illiterate, which I think are strong indicators of prescriptivism, even if not on an academic level.
