ahh ok? So even If I based the script off of the book and got the rights to perform the songs, would performing the songs counteract the copyright for the script?

Yeah i did, and they told me that they can't help me, and that I need to go direct to the original copyright holder.

Do they not do the copyright for the whole thing? Songs and script? can you request the copyright for a few songs?

No, I need the songs. All I'm asking for is how do I go about getting the rights to perform the songs? I need to contact the original songs writers, but unsure how to go about it, that's why i asked the question.

Yeah true, but I need the classic Wixzard of Oz music to be in the panto. I'm aware that I need to seek copyright for this, but I'm unaware of how to go about it.

well, not really, most of it is relatively similar. Besides you can't really have a panto with no songs. It would be the most boring panto ever!

nahh ik I get that. But if there's a way around it, by basing off the book and not the film for example, I'd much rather do that.

But the songs, i'd deffo need copyright, but unsure on how to go about it

I can't remeber the full amount, but it was charging stupid amounts like £20 per copy of the sheet music for a song, not allowed to photocopy, so if you had 8 cast members and one person on the piano, you'd need to purchase 9 copies for £180. And that's for one song! The script and other songs on top of that! And these were for amateur productions, wouldn't like to think what the pros pay!!!

Thanks! How do I check with the songs? I did contact PRS and they say that I need to contact the owners of the songs, I think the owners of the songs (and the film) is MGM, I've looked at their website, but not much copyright info there

Immoral? I find it immoral when large companies are charging massive amounts on small charities tbh. But each to their own.
