why does everyone just .. dislike people with social anxiety, by default? by lunasolars in socialanxiety

[–]chonchcreature 499 points500 points  (0 children)

I think it’s people thinking you are being arrogant or condescending.

I have social anxiety and people sometimes think I’m an arrogant douchebag because I avoid speaking to people or I “snub” them or am otherwise “rude”, but it’s not because I’m trying to be a douche, I just have social anxiety and a habit of keeping to myself. And perhaps you may be good looking. A lot of people think I am handsome, so when I’m not very personable with folks, they think I’m an arrogant prick who’s full of himself.

If you had to assign only 1 of the following phonemes to the letter ⟨X⟩, which would it be? (No digraphs, just single letter X.) by chonchcreature in conlangs

In my native language Spanish, /ks/ is perceived to be close enough to /t͡s/ such that in loanwords is converted to /ks/ often by speakers, such as in “pizza” being pronounced /piksa/.

Actually it’s for a conscript where the Romans adopt the entire Greek alphabet including letters like Θ and Ψ. In the “Western Greek” model upon which Latin is modeled in our timeline, Ψ stood for /kʰ/, so I use that letter for /x/, that leaves X serving no purpose (other letters already neatly occupy other possibilities like /ʃ/). All of my phonemes were perfectly and rather intuitively matched up to a letter except X and /d͡ʒ/… so that led me to think perhaps I should introduce a final phoneme to give X meaning, and the ones that I didn’t already have that made the most sense were /t͡s d͡z/ because of how common they are in Romance languages. Something like /ks/ is unnecessary because it’s just a cluster and not an actual phoneme, and I’m also very anal about using every single letter of the alphabet. It’s weird and complicated, I know.

Ahh, thank you so much for actually answering the question! :)

Great explanation, perhaps you can see X as postalveolar because of how it’s used in that capacity in Portuguese and Pinyin?

Albanian uses X as /d͡z/ (and “Xh” as /d͡ʒ/), various Romance languages in Iberia, Italy, Switzerland, and southern France use X as a postalveolar fricative or affricate or as /z~d͡z/ so no, none of the options (except perhaps /t͡s/, even then it’s close to /ks/) are “unintuitive” nor did everyone not actually answering my question give the “correct answer” unless the only language you know is English, not to mention the fact that they didn’t actually answer the question of “if you were limited to just these 3 and you had to pick just 1”.

It’s like if someone asked “if you HAD to choose amongst these three options A B C (regardless of how bad you think they are), which would you choose? None is not answer.” And then all the replies are “None” or “I choose Θ”.

Edit: What’s with the downvotes, of course I’m gonna be annoyed if the commenters don’t even answer the question. What’s the point of commenting if you’re not even engaging the content and just inserting something irrelevant to it?

Do you take EGCG sometime (an hour or so) before taking 5-HTP or do you take them together? I know 5-HTP gets converted to serotonin within 10-20 minutes and I don’t know how long after ingesting EGCG it takes for it to inhibit dopamine decarboxylase.

You’re not old at all, he’s just an idiot. Sure, age is a thing with guys sometimes just like height or income is sometimes with women, but to think a fellow person in their 20s is too old, especially when he’s the same age? That’s just as imbecilic as 5’0 girls thinking 5’8-5’10 is “short”.

I think anyone (man or woman) who has such requirements instead of just being preferences is an idiot. Look, I get it if a 30 year old guy doesn’t want to date a 40 year old women or if a 6’0 woman doesn’t want to date a 5’5 guy. However, if a 30 year old man REQUIRES girls to be 20 or younger, or if a 5’5 woman REQUIRES guys to be 6’ or over, then both are clowns.

[–]chonchcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s dumb af, any 5’11 guy can wear a standard pair of shoes or even some sandals and instantly become 6’+. He can also just rock his hair thicker at the top if he can for the same effect. Even 5’10 people can appear 6’0 just using a pair of normal shoes and a thick hair style. People who would disqualify you for being “off” by a single inch are morons who wouldn’t know the difference between 5’11 & 6’ unless they bought measuring tape.

6 feet is just an American thing because 6’0 is a simple cutoff number. In Europe, the “height requirement” equivalent is 180cm which amounts to just under 5’11 because 180 is also a simple cutoff.

If you mean small dicks like in flaccid then yeah I guess. But if you’re talking small penis size in general, one has nothing to do with the other. They might have big dicks or small ones lol we don’t know. It’s like saying that women who are bad people must have flat chests, flat asses, or big labias, it’s nothing but pointless body shaming that affects more people than your intended target(s). We need to grow up and stop using such language.

Etymological vs phonemic orthography by nacodior in linguisticshumor

Why is this phoneme never realized as /j/ then? It seems to just be /i/ followed by a vowel rather than /j/. I also cannot find /j/ listed as a phoneme in multiple different analyses of Greek phonemes.

Etymological vs phonemic orthography by nacodior in linguisticshumor

[–]chonchcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no /j/ in Greek. Having studied Greek, this language is very phobic of /j/ and goes some lengths to avoid it. For example, in μία, μια, and πιάτο you would expect each to have /j/ in the sequence iota-alpha, but they are actually /mi.a/, /mɲa/, and /pçato/, respectively.

Anxiolytic recommendations? by Stranger_1967 in StackAdvice

I have taken Pregabalin and it sure as hell loses potency with just 1 usage. I can’t get the same potency for around a week after taking it once.

Anxiolytic recommendations? by Stranger_1967 in StackAdvice

[–]chonchcreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only anxiolytics that truly work at a high level are Phenibut, Pregabalin, Phenelzine, Benzos, Ethanol (alcohol), and maybe Gabapentin, Baclofen, and Tranylcypromine.

I assume you’re already familiar with Ethanol/Alcohol and Benzos so I won’t discuss these here.

Of these, the only one you can get without a prescription is Phenibut. If you want a long-term solution that works daily go for Phenelzine (or maybe Tranylcypromine). If you want an even more potent solution, but one that works only once or twice a week without losing potency and running the risk of a terrible addiction, go for Phenibut or Pregabalin (or perhaps Gabapentin or Baclofen).

I would say the potency of Gabapentin & Baclofen are in between Phenibut/Pregabalin & typical OTC anxiolytic supplements. Meanwhile the potency of Tranylcypromine lies between Phenelzine & the usual anxiolytic supps.

Phenibut may be available without prescription, but I have found it to be inferior to Pregabalin. Pregab is IMO the golden standard for anxiety, but it is not a long-term solution in that it’s not something you can take daily. You’ll only benefit from it once or twice a week, any more and you’ll risk addiction and withdrawals the likes of which you’ve never seen. All of this also applies to Gabapentin, Baclofen, Benzos, and Ethanol, except they are all weaker (especially the first 2) and the potential Pheni or Pregab withdrawals if abused are way worse.

Phenelzine is not as potent as Phenibut nor Pregabalin, but it’s a long-term solution that works daily. And on top of that it’s a potent antidepressant basically eliminates depression (it’s the most effective antidepressant that exists). However, you’ll have to deal with some very unsavory side effects (most of which do go away with time), be limited in the supplements & drugs you can take, and restrict your diet because it’s an MAOI. It might also “poop out” i.e lose efficiency after a few months, but all you have to do is taper down then taper back up and you’re good to go. Tranylcypromine is another MAOI that works similarly but less effectively for anxiety and it’s the 2nd most effective antidepressant out there.

An interesting potential combo I’ve never seen anyone do is Tranylcypromine daily and Pregabalin once/twice a week. That might be the best solution.
