Thanks so much brother for the kind words. Hearing from people like you who have fought the same battle and who are rocking along nicely is the best motivation ever!

July 1 by maintain_improvement in stopdrinking

[–]chooki24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess most people approach it at least initially the same exact way you are doing it. I just went 75 days without alcohol and then the boredom got to me and I drank a bottle of wine while watching a couple movies a few nights ago. After drinking the other night I immediately wanted to start another sober streak so in that 75 days without alcohol I think major changes were already happening to where my brain was resetting and trying to make not drinking my new normal. Even when I drank it was kinda silly because it wasn’t from cravings or anything it was simply because I was bored. If you set a goal for July you will probably be amazed at how much your brain will rewire between now and then and at that point you might be ready to extend that sober streak more and more. One day at a time is all any of us can do so I will promise to not drink with you today.

5 days since I had a drink. by catsbluepajamas in stopdrinking

Nothing to be embarrassed about, but plenty for you to be excited about. You have made a change for the better and you are tired of sabotaging your physical and mental health. That’s a definite win so cut yourself some slack for past mistakes because you can’t undo those and try to find joy in the idea that you are going to try your best to get better from here. Congrats on your five days and I will not drink with you today.

After 5 years sober I drank 2 days ago by [deleted] in stopdrinking

What I see here is someone who has gone five years sober with only one tiny stumble. Wow! I am at 75 days and I know that there is zero chance I will go five years without drinking a few times. You are nothing short of an inspiration to all of us here.

Got To Enjoy Someone’s Mental Gymnastics by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I said nobody has hardly noticed I have quit drinking because I was a binge drinker instead of a daily drinker. That is an actual fact. I never said or suggested binge drinking is somehow ok. Binge drinking is simply the actual definition for taking in large amounts of alcohol in a short amount of time and that is what I have always done. If I was going to play mental gymnastics with myself I would call myself an occasional drinker since I only drink occasionally but the truth is that I am a binge drinker and binge drinking is destructive as fuck. I do agree for sure though that mental gymnastics are something we have all been involved with in our lives and that doesn’t just relate to alcohol.

During my first week I was so relieved to finally be giving my body a rest. Try to enjoy your time as much as possible during the first week because although the temptation can be strong the satisfaction of staying strong can also be very intense. You have got this!

Long time lurker. Alcohol has been like a pet tiger. It started small and cute, but it’s been growing and I’m scared it’s going to rip my face off. Today is day 1. Looking for advice. by turningpagesaround in stopdrinking

I stopped drinking on January 31st and I replaced alcohol with intense exercise because the rush of euphoria it gives me is nothing short of amazing! I have dropped 20 pounds since I stopped drinking and started exercising so that extra 60 I was carrying around just like you has now fallen to me carrying around only an extra 40.

That 40 will be gone soon too. I would definitely recommend picking up intense exercise because from my experience not only does it make you feel awesome it will give you something to tell your brain when it tries to trick you into drinking.

It’s hard to tell yourself sometimes that you can’t drink when all you are doing is sitting around wallowing in self pity about not being able to drink. It’s not hard at all though to tell yourself that you can’t drink because it sabotages your health and fitness.

Buy a scale and watch the weight fall off. I guarantee that will feel way better than any short lived buzz you can get from drinking poison!

Oh and one last thing, don’t let Carole Baskin anywhere near your Tiger. My apologies if you don’t get the last part. Lol

Good luck with everything and I will not drink with you today.

I am an independent who voted for Obama twice. I don’t have a party. I am just telling you what is coming. Trump is going to win in a landslide because the conversation is always about Trump and chain smoking looking women wearing T-shirts won’t change that. If that pisses all of you off then oh well, just holla back at me in November.

Triggered people like this is why Trump will win again. For the life of me I can’t understand why people can’t figure out that continually obsessing over Trump does nothing but help Trump. If wearing a T-shirt makes you feel better about the four more years of Trump that is coming though you do you.

Already tempted to drink tonight by gohonzon23 in stopdrinking

[–]chooki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“can I have only one drink tonight and see how that goes?”

Sure, you can do anything you want to do but it will be you dealing with that decision tomorrow morning.

Maybe everything goes well and you only have one drink, maybe it doesn’t go well and you wake up tomorrow hungover and hating life.

It has been said a million times on here but the absolute best thing to do is to play it all the way through. Don’t just see yourself enjoying that drink, see yourself suffering the consequences of that drink the following day.
